ButtonWillow 2:08.09 (config #1) in my CS

The CS continues to impress me, and my fellow PCA members in Norcal (GGR). We were down at ButtonWillow this past weekend, a track I don't know well since this was only my second event there. My CS has a few mods which you can see below but I was very surprised to do a 2:08.09. We ran config #1 w/ Star Mazda and the normal off ramp. I wasn't able to pull it off in timed runs since the track was hotter than hell in the late afternoon so I needed to settle for 2:09.4. The CS continues to show its a superior platform with a few mods to unleash it's potential. With that said I can't figure out a few corners there but I think 2:06's are possible.

If anyone hasn't driven BW I highly recommend it. Tight, technical and super fun.

2:08.09's at BW Config 1 with Nitto's, nice!

From the BoxsterSpec board it looks like the track config was 1 CW for the race on 5/23 and that BSR's were doing 2:11~2:12's for qual.

Where on the track do you feel that there is time to be gained?

Re: ButtonWillow 2:08.09 (config #1) in my CS

I know all the guys running in BSR they were running pretty well with the fastest qualifying at 2:12.5. The BSR class was the best race to watch last weekend. They post everything on mylaps.com if people are interested.

I think there's more time to gain at turn 9 (magic mountain), Star Mazada and Turn 13 (I can't remember what it's called). I've compared my traqmate data with a friend and there's definitely more time there.

Video: Buttonwillow 2:08.09

I put up a post before thinking I didn't catch this on video. Good news I was wrong. Here is a video of ButtonWillow CW Config 1 doing 2:08.09. A personal best for me.

See below...

POC BSR track record is 2:09.1 (but this may have been with a different tire).

Fastest BSR last fall was 2:11.6 (on the Toyo), but POC runs a slightly different configuration (#1 with extended on ramp) that adds about two seconds. Is this the lap you are quoting Mooty? If so, you should adjust your target down by about two seconds.

Lap times at this track are very temp, wind, and dust dependent as it is right in the middle of some very dry oil fields and farm land. Horrible location really.

POC will is running BW in October so hopefully we will see many of you there. Please let me know if I can assist any of the NorCal folks with navigating through the POC classing and licensing requirements. Many modifications such as plenums, etc. will bump you up many classes very quickly.

BTW, on the OP, 2:09 is flying in a stock weight Cayman. Well done. You will certainly kick our SoCal tails when you come down.

Cheers,

You are defintely among the West Coast Caymanista Elite. Great video.

Have you ever had any smoke issues on your NT-01's? You are running them on stock 18's? What are the tires sizes?

What keeps your traqmate controller in place in front of your cluster?

Dave

Re: ButtonWillow 2:08.09 (config #1) in my CS

Thanks for the Caymanista comment, too funny.

Smoke issues? do you mean oil ingestion? I do get oil ingestion but only at ButtonWillow because of the banked nascar turn. I never get smoke at T-hill, laguna or SP.

I run 245/275 on stock 18's at the track. The stock 18's are actually really light for cast wheels, now if I can just find another used set.

Just watched the video of your flying lap, nice!

What was the rabbit that you were chasing? Could not really tell from the vid.

Any plans for a LSD for the Cayman?

It was a race prepped 911. I've been thinking about a guard LSD but I'm guess the labor is going to be a killer. Does anyone know, is the labor around 20 hours? I've seen one of the articles but no one talks about how many hours.

Yes. Oil ingestion. I haven't had issues at Thunderhill, Laguna, Infineon, or Fernley on PS2s. We'll see about Miller next weekend. Good to know about Buttonwillow.

I have the same 19s for the street and 18 inch for the track from a Boxster S owner who needed Twennys.

Re: ButtonWillow 2:08.09 (config #1) in my CS

You should never have an issue with PS2's. You'll also be fine on those tracks with R888's or NT01's. ButtonWillow is a problem because of a long high speed banked turn. I used a full quart of oil over three days last weekend. Super fun track but bring some oil and check it after two sessions. You also need to to have the throttle pined going through there to have enough g's to inhale enough oil.

It's important to note that I don't blow smoke while on track but I'll blow smoke after the car sits for an hour at ButtonWillow. Even more important question, Dave are you going to come out with GGR soon? We've got two events at T-Hill left and one at Sears. I bet one weekend with GGR at T-hill and you'll shave 2 seconds off your time. Come on out, we'd love to have another CS out in the mix.

if you get RMS leak or of you need new clutch/lwfw, the dealer will remove the entire gearbox (per service manual, though you dont need to). once the removed the gearbox, get the box to jerry woods and they will do the rest to fit the LSD.

i shipped my to brian copans in ohio or some far away state. the labor is nothing once the gear box is out. he didn't charge me as he was installing a R&P on my gt3.

You guys are killing me. I have been watching Youtube videos of Caymans for the last 5 hours. These cars are awesome. Great time, good video, and I need to talk to my dealer about the RMS leak on my gearbox and the Quaife in my garage. Thanks for the thread it was all worth the time.
