Arrow Traqmate Display Unit Mounting Suggestion

I just bought a traqmate and I am trying to figure out where to mount the display unit.

Any idea would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Traqmate Display Unit Mounting Suggestion

Since I don't generally use the radio/cd while I'm at the track, I fabricated a piece of sheet aluminum that bridges across the front of the radio at the top of the center console, covering the CD slot and some buttons. 3 of the sides (top, left, right) are bent back 90 degrees to fit in the gaps between the edge of the radio face and the trim. I covered the each of the sides with stick-on felt for a tight fit and to protect the car. I installed a snap in mount for the display unit on the sheet metal so the DU can be conveniently taken out of the car to download data.

The nice part about this setup is that the DU is highly visible when in use, but with the metal bracket removed there is no sign of the installation when I'm not using it. I recall seeing a commercial bracket that also fits into the gaps in the dash. You might want to do some searching on that.

hope that helps,
Dave

Re: Traqmate Display Unit Mounting Suggestion

I put the brain in the cubby behind the driver's seat. I have wide Velcro that keeps it in place in the bottom of the bin. The GPS antennae then runs up through the hatchback to the roof, and the power cord goes behind the driver's seat into the armrest 12v. All of the excess cable stays in the cubby. Nice and neat. I just unplug the display unit and take it, and wind up the GPS antennae, 12V cord and display cord and toss them in the cubby.

The display cord runs behind the driver's seat to the right and I have wide Velcro that attaches it to the side of the center console to the right of my knee/calf. It is easy to grab and review, but the display can't be seen while driving.

I find that this works, since looking at the display while driving is the last thing I need to be doing while on the track. I might mount it just below the guage cluster at some point, though.

Re: Traqmate Display Unit Mounting Suggestion

As long as you track with the steering wheel extended there is more than enough room on top of the flat steering column to mount the DU there with velcro. That's what I did and I routed the cable in the seams down to the console. It blocks the carputer display but, not the tach in any way.

Works for me.

Re: Traqmate Display Unit Mounting Suggestion

I used a proclip mount, just slots into the dash between the trim pieces. I then bolted a Traqmate DU quick release mount to it so it snaps off when not in use. It's a more solid mount so which makes operating the buttons easier and is still very viewable without having it on the front windshield.

I velcroed the antenna to the underside of the rear window so I don't need to keep it outside the car.

The recording unit is velcroed undered the seat to the carpet.
