Cayman 2.7 Tip or Manual

Hi All
I have always had Manual cars and im just currently ordering my 2.7 cayman 09 MY
I Quite like the idea of having the Auto Gearbox

Does anybody here have a 2.7 Tip ?
I have test driven both But wonder if anybody has had a greater experence /Knowledge of the 2.7 with auto, is the loss in transmition / power an issue to anyone?

I have an 08 2.7 with tip. I just got back from my first long trip with the car. I'm almost done with the 2k break-in. The car was flawless. However, at times in traffic the tip shifts up too fast for my liking and bogs down the engine a little. If you drive the car more spirited, it has a different shift pattern that tip applies and shift are at a higher rpm. The torque on the low end isn't the greatest by any means. I find myself putting it in manual when I'm running in the twisties. The shifts are smooth and quick enough for me. My experience at high rpms are limited. However, I have found above 4k rpms the car is very quick with the throttle response. When passing other vehicles, just a flick of the thumb to shift down and your on your way. The car is very responsive. I went through the same thoughts when I was purchasing my Cayman. Is there times that I wished I had a manual trans? Sure. But living in California where the traffic can sometimes drive you crazy, I felt that the tip trans was the best solution for me. Good luck on your purchase.

when i bought my 07 cs i did not like the setup of the tip compared to lexus, bmw or even infinity---all of these that i drove were paddle shiffters which i loved--i love f1--ended up buying a manual cs--any of the other 3 i would have bought the automatic--i did not like mercedes shifter on the wheel either--similar to porsche--i heard that porsche will change to paddle shifters sometime soon versus the button? corvette's paddle shifter was gross too

Will DSG be available on the 09 cars? You may want to hold off the final spec until nearer the time.

Never even consider the Tip. Auto boxes do not belong in real sports cars IMHO.

I just ordered a 2.7 with tip. Guess I'm not a real man.

Heaven9899, get what YOU want, not what others think you should have!

I think the Tip shifts up too fast. You can hardly goes above 4000 rpm without using the manual mode.
