PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
|
 |
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

Black...Im pretty old school. I wanted the Terracotta with deviating dash & carpet, but I choose to put that money ($3k more then full black) into the sport buckets. The dealer has a GT2 coming in this weekend so I can try the seats.

Oh yeah? He will actually let you look over the chain-link fence, past the dogs and through the closed window at the seats?
How nice.
If that was MY GT2 coming in I would want freaking surveillance cameras trained on the thing with a video feed to my desktop until I picked it up. No "test sitting" in the seats of my $200,000 car.
LOL
Congratulations on the car, by the way. What is the ETA?

We have the owners permission.
Don't know the exact arrival date...end of July, beginning of August? I was told by two dealers that all May/June builds had been cancelled, so I'm a little curious what's going on.

Slow sales are probably what is going on. They want to get rid of the current stock sitting on dealer's lots before the 09's start rolling out.

Actually that is a good idea. This is not the time to flood the market with any car. Helps all of ur resale value down the line.

Look at pictures of Caymans a lot. The Gallery gets a lot of hits from me. Rethink your order entirely too many times. Stop off at the dealer occassionally and look at real Caymans. Read the Cayman brochure until the pages are frayed. Plan what you're going to do and where you're going to go when the car finally arrives. For some folks, it is also a great time to research and accumulate mods. (Not me, I swore off mods.)

I supposedly have a Cayman S with a build date of May. My mechanic tells me that May is the last month of the MY 08 builds. The salesman said that the car should get to him 40 days after the build date.

Nothing wrong with the black interior. I also chose it because I didn't want to spend $3k+ for an upgraded color. That was money I could spend on performance upgrades that Porsche doesn't offer. Unless you are a large person, you will love the sport seats. They are incredible.
Based upon my experience, I would wait until the car arrives before you start looking at mods. (Even though you said you wouldn't do any.) I bought a bunch of mods before the car arrived, but my thoughts on mods and types of mods changed after I took delivery of the car and spent some time behind the wheel. For example, I ordered the car with the 18" CS wheels because I didn't want to pay the upcharge for 19" Carrera Classics. (My plan was to buy a set off of Ebay and also keep the 18's. That was a better deal.) Well I bought a set of 19's and when the car came in with the 18's, I liked them more in person than the 19's! I like them both, but if I were to do it again, I would probably would have gotten another set of 18's for the track.

Just got mail few days ago showed mine planned for production scheduled for 5/8/08, WAS SUPPOSED TO BE 4/15/08 pls don't tell me May/June builds were cancelled. My dealer tried to make a couple last minute changes but couldn't edit my order, he said that it's started and they won''t allow any changes from here on in, am I okay if that's the case?

Damn! Just got back from looking @ the GT2...it didn't have the sports buckets. Had the adaptive sports seats instead. Sure was a purty car though. 50K over sticker.

Waiting is the hard part, so stay busy. More importantly when the vehicle finally arrives: Resist the temptation to flame out the driveway immediately from the Dealership.
Take the time to fully check out the vehicle to your satisfaction and general understanding of how everything operates and works. The Porsche staff is quite good about this, but slow down the process, as the only time schedule to obey is your own. This is where little things that were missed beome irritating annoyances later, especially if there is (perish the thought) a defect.
I observed a Carrera GT owner flame out in a rush, and spall one of his wheels going over a very obvious, and elevated curb. Limping the vehicle carefully back in, the damaged wheel had to be replaced, with none in stock, alas. This also cost him an additional wait, and an extra amount equal to about 25 % of a new Cayman.
