Finally! Built 3/19/08, delivered 5/9/08

A Cobalt Blue Cayman S with Dark Grey Natural Leather. Delivered with 12 miles on it. Manual transmission, sport seats, XPA steering wheel, auto climate, rain sensor & mirrors, heated seats, lots of leather. (In fact, a special thanks to member Midnight Blue, whose posted pictures pointed me towards some of the right leather options.)

The only option I really wrestled with was PASM, which I didn't get. My driveway, and many places I like to go, need reasonable ground clearance, and I hate scraping. The 10mm drop concerned me with my driveway. Should I, shouldn't I... so I went with the base suspension. A good choice, it turns out. I like a pretty stiff ride, and the combination of the base suspension and the 18" wheels are just perfect.

I was concerned about choosing Dark Grey. I wanted natural leather; it feels like you'd expect leather to feel, but so seldom does in cars under $200K. I almost did white / carrera red, but the red is too monochromatic. Natural brown is very nice, but the shade just wasn't what I wanted. (I actually like the sand beige color better.) So I chose dark grey sight unseen. It doesn't photograph easily, often with a red or purple cast to it, sometimes greenish under flourescent lights. In person it is really classy, and I'm glad I picked it. I think my interior pics are the first of dark grey in the Gallery.

The clear bra goes on Monday.

Cobalt Blue is such a nice color!

Congratulations!

There is no such thing as "too much leather"

Welcome to the OR Cayman comunity. Great choice on colors and options, the car looks great! I see you still have the amber side markers, are you going to switch to clear ones? Enjoy your new ride!

I've never understood the clear side marker thing. The amber ones don't bother me. Now the exhaust tip, that Porsche could have done a better job on.

One interesting thing I noted, I expected the lower surface of the front bumper to be silver. Mine is body color. Was this a change I just wasn't aware of for the 2008's, or is my car just weird?

It is an option to be picked up. I learned the hard way as well, thought full leather meant full leather. And when I looked at Midnight Blue's pics and realized what wasn't included I tried to order some extra leather but it was too late, wanted the steering column wrapped, door finishers, and shifter, thought bout visors, was too late anyway. I'm sure you can change it out or get it painted, congrats by the way, looks classy, enjoy.

does full leather include the stitching on the gauge shroud and the stitching on either side of the center stack/nav system? i know it puts french stitching on the doors up by the windows, but am unsure about the rest of it.

The extra leather I ordered was:

- XPA steering wheel. If you order any other sport wheel it's not all leather.
- Steering column. I agree, a must-have for leather heads.
- Instrument surround. A rare option, but I highly recommend it. You look at that area a lot.
- Rear center console. Pricey, but worth it.
- Door finishers.
- Sun visors. Those damned stickers have to go, though.
- Gear level trim. Finishes the console.

Yes and yes. To finish the doors you need to order leather "door finishers".

Yes and yes.

Question for OP:

How close is Natural gray to black (how dark is it)? On samples it looked very dark to me.

Dark Grey is quite different from Black. It's much lighter. Black is, IMO, better looking than Dark Grey (I like the contrasting stitching that comes with black leather), but once I felt the "hand" of natural leather I had to go big or stay home.

Agreed. It's a little dull. Get yourself some chromed tips or maybe an entirely new exhaust?

Ah ha. I just noticed the aluminum-look "spoiler lips" are a US$485 option. Glad I didn't get it. Thanks.

Yes, I got the steering column trim. I think it's a must-have. In an earlier post on this thread I listed the leather items I ordered. I didn't do the vent trim. If there's one piece I'd get leather-wrapped that I didn't, in retrospect, was the A-pillar remote mirror mount.

BTW, the XPA steering wheel is simply incredible in natural leather. I'll never wear driving gloves in the CS.
