Talking Finally, it's here!

OK so yesterday I received the car. All of the waiting and agonizing. Initially agonizing over the decision to get the car. Probably like a lot of others here, I was a car enthusiast for a long time and I had been a porschephile for a long time based solely on what I had read about the cars over the years in car magazines. When I finally decided I was going to get the car I began agonizing over all of the decisions that had to be made, colors, S vs. non S. Finally, agonizing over the decisions regarding the options (reading about the stuff here and at other sites), then going to the dealerships (none are all that close to where I live). None had what I was looking for with the options and colors. I finally settled on a build then shopping around. Finally got what I thought was a decent discount on a build, there was exhilaration when I placed the order. Then I settled down to wait. The order was placed in Jan for an April build. In the mean time, I ordered the Cayman Club plate frames. I felt funny about ordering something that wasn’t yet mine (almost like it might be bad luck). The car was built on 4-18, arrived on 5-22 in Baltimore and arrived at the dealership on 5-29. I picked it up yesterday. 6 miles on it. Talk about build up!

Ok first impressions: That really sums it up. The color, the curves, the sound of the engine, the whine of the transmission. It's very difficult to keep the rpms below the 4200 recommended during the break in period. That engine really winds up quickly! I'm appreciating all of the thought that must have gone into the design of this machine. I had test driven the car a few times. I loved the ride on the 18 in stocker wheels and I thought that the 19’s were a bit harsh esp on our uneven roads here in NY. I hadn’t been able to drive a PASM or sport chrono equipped car. I ordered these options solely based on what I read here at this site. Sure there were pros and cons. Bottom line here is that I thought I might like these options. You live once, and you don’t take it with you when you die. I ordered them both.

PASM: Press the button to get PASM into sport mode, in about 2 sec, the ride firms up noticeably. My wife liked that setting by the way so it can’t be too harsh LOL. It will be interesting to see how I like it when I get out to some DE.
Havent yet had the time to play w sport chrono. Got around to playing w the auto climate.
The radio? Listened to it for about 2 or three minutes but I was busier with the more important car stuff. I ended up turning it off and listening to the sounds of the car getting used to the sound of the engine at different rpms.
Gearbox feels very precise. I remember that the one I test drove (which had 12 miles on it) felt really tight. Mine isn’t hard to shift but you do have to give it a bit of a nudge to get it in gear. Getting it into reverse is a little harder, There’s a detent there so you have to really want to go in reverse to get it to engage. Very different feel to my S4 (which I love). Heel and toe-ing is a little more difficult in this car than in my S4. I think it can be done and it will take practice. I’m going to wait before deciding on aftermarket pedal covers... Thanks for your pedal covers post the other day Pistol Pete! Almost forgot, Adaptive Sport seats. None of the dealers in my area had a car w these in a CS. I sat in a Boxster w the non-adaptive sport seats and thought that they felt nice. I ordered these for my car and I can tell you they are very nice!! You climb into the car and it really feels like you fit into the car seat like it was shaped for you. I think it's a really nice feature. It's also nice that if you want you can open it up and make it less snug (maybe for longer trips?) Got around to taking only a few pics yesterday. Took my wife and my kids out for rides. Racked up more than 100 miles on my 1st half day with the car! Five% of the break in period is down, 95% left!! The car is covered in bug splatters! I would like to get a clear bra but no one seems to know of an installer in my area (near Syracuse NY). So, if you know of one please let me know! Thanks in advance.

Congrats - sounds like it was worth the wait!

Did you get the Bose? If so, you might want to check into the subwoofer stuffing mod, when you actually get around to listening to the stereo.

Yup, got the Bose, yup, read about the subwoofer stuffing mod. Kind of unbelievable that you'd need to do this in a car like this LOL. I'll listen to the radio some and do what I need to do. The other thing I didn't realize was that the visors are vinyl clad. I somehow missed that one. I think that they should have clad them in something nicer maybe cloth?

Big big fun is in your future! PASM, SC, and AS Seats, you got the goods! I almost went with Cobalt Blue but went with Midnight Blue instead. Both look very good on this car IMO. Congratulations!

Congrats on the new car and the fulfillment that comes with the long wait. You've got many months of great weather to drive in your area (before the snow comes that is) so enjoy. BTW - Cobalt Blue Rules! (Sorry Ken)

My new cobalt blue cayman s

Hellow all and thanks for the help. I have been looking at and thinking about a cayman for almost a year.Checking this site for pricing and info on cars. But it seemed lately the dealers have been more willing to deal. Not sure why but got me looking.I could not decide on color or model (standerd or s ).I taked with redwood city dealer and they offered $11000 off msrp on 08 midnight blue. That got me realy serious and had me looking around.I wanted to see a cobalt blue car ,but no one seem to have them. The few I found were with dealers unwilling to get that low in price. I looked at a used cobalt and did not like it ,so thought about midnight again.I just could not find the right car and price to make me jump in.Well I finally found the car,an 08 coblt blue with all the needed options but without the frills. An msrp of $68000 and the color is great. The only thing I wish I could of had was sport design wheels.I had to drive three hours to monterey porsche .But got an even better deal and car was just punched for warranty.I picked up car yesterday and love it. I ordered a set of wheels for it and plan to get a clear bra.I am so glad I waited for the right car . Now I just got to find time to drive it. LIFE IS GOOD!

Thanks! Did that already, figured I'd try that first before trying to modify it. : )

Yup! Lots of enthusiasm! Re the last line in your sig: sounds prophetic, I'll keep that in mind!

Yup, I love the color too. One of these days I'll figure out how to post some pics but most have seen the black/stone combo already. Looking forward to some DE after the break in is over. Hopefully I won't see the oil smoke issues you've seen. <crosses fingers >............
