Just ordered a 2009 Cayman S
HI,
I am new as a registered Cayman Club web site but have not posted anything yet since I did not own a Cayman. I just placed my order on one of the first build (Feb 09) and I am darned excited about this. I have a 1999 Boxster and it will be celebrating its 10th Bithday in Feb so I needed to upgrade authough I still love that car. It needs a good home if anyone is interested.
The new Cayman S is speced as follows:
Cayman S 987 120
BASE Cayman S
X1 Arctic Silver Metallic
X1 Arctic Silver Metallic
07 Carrera Red Natural Leather
573 Automatic Climate Control
639 Sport Chrono Pkg W/Out PCM
810 Floor Mats in Interior Color
635 Parking Assist System
P75 BiXenon Headlights w/Dyn Cornr
446 Wheel Caps with Colored Crest
580 Rear Luggage Partition
25071 Carpet in Deviating Color (Black)
P15 Power Seat Package
998 Leather Interior Natural Lthr
XCZ Sport Shifter
XLF Sport Exhaust System
I was seriously considering PDK but it is not even available in the early builds or at least from my dealers allocation so the decision was easy. I wanted the LSD but you cannot get it without PDK so that was another descision.
I am going with the Carrera Red Full leather option with deviating black carpeting. I may stick with the red floor mats but I will wait to see it in person.
I am going with the standard S 18' wheels because I have felt the hard ride with 19" and the additional cost as well.
I really struggled with sport exhaust due to the cost but the new Porsches sound too tame. I just hope this system does not be irratating in the cabin on long trips.
By the way I got a fantastic deal here in FL so if you want to know which dealer and the discount send me an email to Boxster1@comcast.net. They have allocation and they are dealing.
Once I get the car in April I will look into things such as painted center console but that is a long way from now. Just praying the darn stock market will.
By the way Pedro of Pedro's Garage advised me on the performance options.
320 HP

LSD - Limited Slip Differential
|
 |
A limited slip differential (LSD) is a modified or derived type of differential gear arrangement that allows for some difference in rotational velocity of the output shafts, but does not allow the difference in speed to increase beyond a preset amount. In an automobile, such limited slip differentials are sometimes used in place of a standard differential, where they convey certain dynamic advantages, at the expense of greater complexity.
The main advantage of a limited slip differential is found by considering the case of a standard (or "open") differential where one wheel has no contact with the ground at all. In such a case, the contacting wheel will remain stationary, and the non-contacting wheel will rotate freely– the torque transmitted will be equal at both wheels, but will not exceed the threshold of torque needed to move the vehicle, thus the vehicle will remain stationary. In everyday use on typical roads, such a situation is very unlikely, and so a normal differential suffices. For more demanding use however, such as driving off-road, or for high performance vehicles, such a state of affairs is undesirable, and the LSD can be employed to deal with it. By limiting the velocity difference between a pair of driven wheels, useful torque can be transmitted as long as there is some friction available on at least one of the wheels.

Re: Just ordered a 2009 Cayman S
Looks like a very nice spec! I owned a nice 993 in Silver/Red and really liked that look (very 550 Spyder looking...).
I'd be tempted to wait until LSD is available, but you can always add that aftermarket (for much more cost).
Sounds nice!

Does anyone know what the aftermarket LSD costs? Do the Porsche dealer service install it? May be something I'll ask for my B-day! March is just around the corner.

Congratulations. Sounds like a beautiful car. One of our local members has an arctic silver CS with the red interior. It's gorgeous.

The quaife TBD is the least expensive, starting around $1,200 plus install, which should cost another $500-$600. The guard transmission clucth type LSD is the cat's meow for the real drifter, and it costs around $2,000 plus install. So, as Grant stated, you can do it after, but it's not cheap.
