Kenwood Dnx-7120 install- No Bass?? Why?

Looking for tech help.

I had a Kenwood 7120 installed today on my boxster (2005). Used the bezel kit from euro motor (looks great). Have a rear view camera, ipod connection and Sirius hooked up. Everything is great except, I lost the bass.

Anyone know how can i get the bass back. I didn't replace the factory speakers (I don't have bose). I did not use an amplifier. Will adding an amp get my bass back?

I didn't do the install. ANy thoughts on why i lost the bass?????? THe installers thought I should get the factory speakers replaced. Help???

Do you have the sound package plus on your car? If so the lack of bass is usually that the installer has not wired in the amp thats already in your car. If not and you've checked all the settings on the head unit I'd ask the installer to swap it for a new one.

Hope that helps,

Steve

Re: Kenwood Dnx-7120 install- No Bass?? Why?

fscwheeler is right, there is a remote lead wire that turns on the sound package plus amplifier which is what powers the woofers in the doors and the center speaker by taking an analog speaker level sample from the front channels. For more details, see this post:

http://www.planetporsche.net/cayman-...installed.html

The euro motor and the japan kit both don't have the wire properly placed in the harness.

Thanks for your help on this. I will take this info to my installer. This looks like it may solve the problem.

Thanks guys for your help. I finally have my bass back. The install is amazing. I don't miss the cdr 24 at all!!!!!

Having garmin, sirius, ipod, bluetooth is awesome!!! I even installed a rear view camera. I would highly recommend an after market system like the dnx 7120. It has everything!!!

Re: Kenwood Dnx-7120 install- No Bass?? Why?

Oh, by the way.

My installer took out the center channel to put in the sirius antenna and the garmin antenna. Therefore, there it is out of sight. I don't miss the center channel at all.

Just in case you are like me and you want nothing showing; removing the center channel speaker and putting in those antenna may be for you. It is worth it for me to lose that sound than to have 2 antenna's hanging out on my dashboard or windshield.

Well, after being on the fence about a few different models, this post convinced me to buy a Kenwood dnx7120. I also purchased the bezel from Euro Speed. Look foward to getting it installed.

Re: Kenwood Dnx-7120 install- No Bass?? Why?

I also love the Kenwood systems. I did not go this route in my Porsche because of Bose amplifier. I did however install a DNX8120 in my son's Acura RSX over the Xmas holidays. Really love the system. Best of all possible worlds, Garmin Navi and Parrot Bluetooth.

Just an FYI.

There is a much better location for the additional antennas. Use the same location that Porsche does for their navi antenna. Under the plastic cowling that encases the windshield wipers. There is a mount point directly in front of the passanger. No reason to give up center speaker.

That is where my sirius antenna currently is. I assume both can go in the same place?

I forot to mention I purchased the bluetooth module and Ipod cable also. I was told there is no aux. input on the front of the stereo so this was the only way to get my iphone to connect. Did you guys run the wire into your glove box?

head unit looks great... but the bezel that is the single detraction for me to go aftermarket. the fitment and colormatch... maybe the bezel's color is being washed out w/ the flash in the pictures?

I had this system installed yesterday...I love it. Combined with the same bezel you purchased, it looks like it was made by Porsche. I also had an amp and sub put in...WOW, I now have awesome sound system.

I tried to get away with just installing the head unit but I just wasn't satisfied with the sound and had to get the amp/sub package. Total price with install was $2,450. With regard to the 7120, I found one on Amazon for $799 and jumped on right away. They are still sellng for $1,100 plus so I got a great deal on it I think.

I considered getting a new speaker package but now know I don't need it. The sound is better than I imagined it would be. As for the sub, I had it installed in the left side of the trunk. Doesn't take up much room at all. Definately recommend this set up to anyone.
