I'm a new Cayman (used 2007) owner and I've been researching the a stereo
upgrade. After reading a ton on this site I still have a few questions.
This post was very informative:

Rear Sides - 2 X 100mm mid range loudspeakers.
"The tweeters and mid-range loudspeakers are powered by the 2 X25W amplifier integrated in the CDR-24 CD-radio. An additional, external analogue amplifier which is accomodated in the luggage compartment powers the low-range loudspeakers ( 2 X 70W) and the center speaker (40W)".

My questions are:
Do I really have 7 or 9 functional speakers?
Are there actually crossover electronics somewhere in the circuit that limit the range
of the speakers in various locations?
If so, does anyone know what the frequency range at each location is?
I would like to change out the speakers and some posts indicate that it isn't
even worth doing because the signal has been altered.
There should be enough power in the car with this system I just need to know more
so that I can make a good choice of replacement speakers.
I would really appreciate any additional information. I would like to try to do the best
I can with the head unit that is there and I'm thinking about adding the mobridge
iPod and Aux input system. I may add another amp or two as well once I understand
the system a little better.
edit: After finding more threads on this topic I guess it looks pretty clear that the output
from the head unit is simply 4 channels of full range audio. I guess the new questions
are where are the speaker crossover components and is the ASK amp limiting freq.
range for the 6.5" and center dash speakers or are there some filter components
near the speaker drivers?
One more thing. Does anyone know the speaker depth available in each location?
