Re: ipod hard drive vibration issues?
The vibration from the car shouldn't matter too much. I've had an iPod specifically for my car for over a year. It still works just fine. Remember that when you plan a continuous set of songs, the iPod will buffer the next 1, 2, or 3 in memory and let the hard drive spin down. It is vibration of the hard drive when spinning that causes damage.
The shock resistance on the latest ipod classic hard drives is:
Shock resistance:
Operating 4,900 m/s(2) (500G, 2ms)
Non-operating 14,700 m/s(2) (1,500G, 1ms)
I'd doubt that you would hit Gs like that from vibrations in the car.
