Question Question: MP3 DVD Format on Pioneer Head Unit

I installed a Pioneer AVH-3100DVD head unit in my 987S over the weekend with the main goal of enabling to play my MP3 library in the car. After the successful install, I tried playing MP3 off of a micro sd though an USB adapter. The head unit says it cannot read the files. Maybe it only supports USB drive? Not a big deal, because I planned to have it played off of DVD anyhow. I used Window Explorer (nothing fancy) to copy the MP3 files onto a DVD-RW disc basically as a data disc and formatted it as such. Again, the head unit says it cannot read the disc/mp3 file.

For those that have aftermarket DVD head unit, how do you format your DVD disc and/or what application do you use so that your DVD is readable by the head unit? Thanks in advance for you input.

Re: Question: MP3 DVD Format on Pioneer Head Unit

I think I found the issue. I am posting it here in case it is helpful to others.

Here are the standard steps:
1.Insert a disc into your computer's CD or DVD drive.
2.In the dialog box that appears, click Burn files to disc.
3.In the Burn a disc dialog box, type a name for your new disc.
4.Click Show formatting options, and then click one of the following formatting options:
•Live File System
•Mastered
5.Click Next to prepare the disc.

The disc has to be formatted "Mastered" for players/receivers to read the files. For whatever reason, the Window Explorer in my HP notework doesn't give me that option. Maybe it is trying to get me to upgrade HP's propriatary DVD writing application in order to write DVD that is readable by other devices... kind of like Porsche comes standard with longer shifter and retarded throttle response with options to upgrade.
