I think I found the issue. I am posting it here in case it is helpful to others.
Here are the standard steps:
1.Insert a disc into your computer's CD or DVD drive.
2.In the dialog box that appears, click Burn
files to disc.
3.In the Burn a disc dialog box, type a name for your new disc.
4.Click Show formatting options, and then click one of the following formatting options:
•Live File System
•Mastered
5.Click Next to prepare the disc.
The disc has to be formatted "Mastered" for players/receivers to read the
files. For whatever reason, the Window Explorer in my HP notework doesn't give me that option. Maybe it is trying to get me to upgrade HP's propriatary DVD writing application in order to write DVD that is readable by other devices... kind of like Porsche comes standard with longer shifter and retarded throttle response with options to upgrade.
