Boxster S w/PCM vs RS60 w/o

Sorry difficult to locate this post - moderator feel free to relocate.

Hi

I just returned my 06 Cayman S after and enjoyable 3 year lease.

I have decided to go back to a convertible and have decided on a new or near new 08. My choice is between a Boxster S w/PCM + Carrera Red leather and an RS60 without. Price is a wash.

I have read a bit of negative comment on the PCM 2.1 on this and other forums.

Any and all comments would be appreciated.

Re: Boxster S w/PCM vs RS60 w/o

i was in a similar situation earlier this year,
without a doubt get an RS60, you get so much more other things, pasm, sports exhaust etc but also alot of unique stuff like the cool gear knob, the finish on the leather seats, sterring wheel and handbrake. even body coloured seat backs that here in the uk are a £800 option. there nice to have but not worth £800, but if there free thats ok!!!
i have just fitted a top of the range clarion unit, euromotorspeed fascia kit and the rear speaker kit they do as well as jl audio amp and speakers and for what i have spent the systems is better than bose for less money and the clarion is miles better than even the PCM 3 never mind the earlier PCM 2 which is OK by modern standards at best.

hope this helps

Mark

Re: Boxster S w/PCM vs RS60 w/o

It seems to me that navi tech moves so fast that aftermarket units, are likely to do more, better, within a year of any factory installation. In the grand scheme of things they are relatively inexpensive and readily updated.

Beyond that, what came standard with the RS-60 makes it a "just right" Boxter S with a bit of unique.

(Well, almost. I keep thinking of what mine "really needs" and now with a few miles the Quaife limited slip deal from this site keeps knocking)

Re: Boxster S w/PCM vs RS60 w/o

Welcome to the Club, RS60 Spyder Club that is. I was sold on this gem when Porsche first released info about it.

My "Black Beast" (Cayenne S) was showing a little age being an everyday driver, so it was decision time for me. Now, don't get me wrong, when I bought it in May of 2003, she was pretty much the first Cayenne on the road between Charlotte, Columbia, and Myrtle Beach and she turned heads, honked horns, and stretched necks until the very last day ! And NO, I did not buy her for that reason and didn't expect those kind of reactions. Nevertheless, it was time for a new Porsche and as luck would have it, the RS60 was coming.

When Porsche sent info including this price option equivalency list uploading now(hope you can read it) I thought WOW !!! all that included. Now all I had to do was search the planet for the one with all the other stuff I had to have. That was the hardest part because at that time dealers were either presold or wouldn't trade their RS60's to other dealers(I wanted to buy it thru Hendrick in Charlotte because they were great with Cayenne).

Finally, Brumos in Jacksonville had #454 coming in on "the boat", and everything pretty much fell in place over the phone. The car was delivered to my front door within a week. A shout out to Bill Bianco for helping me with my dream.

Hope your dream car is everything to you as mine is to me. Get used to people staring because the RS60 is a real looker. Even better, it's a real driver! Happy motoring!
