Unless you are "Jonesing" to get a new ride, I'd even spend the $500 (or so) on the Denison (can't remember exact name) DW500?? unit to play my iPod etc...
NO WAY I'd buy an '09 just because of poor audio.
For the extra jack you'd spend you could get that TPC turbo setup installed... THEN you'd be cooking w/ GASOLINE...

Re: Cayman 07, update bluet/ipod...or new 09
The concern is NOT poor audio...just simply spending money to update car to handle ipod and iphone stuff....which if Porsche paid any attention to the market would be been done prior to 09....and a solution would have been found for prior owners...I am one of those prior owners.....I use my iphone in business...and ipod/ipod touch seems better way to handle music....

If your concern is mainly iPod integration I agree with jhthornley. The Gateway 500 does exactly that, it is wired to the PCM and acts as CD changer allowing you to have full control of you iPod. You can also receive phone calls with the proper accessories.
I would consider swapping yours for the new Cayman 09 if you were missing some "vital" optionals, like PASM which cannot be added later.

PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
|
 |
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

Re: Cayman 07, update bluet/ipod...or new 09
I should have pointed this out...the car doesn't have PCM...it has the base CD24 radio...could the PCM/Nav be "easily" added? if so the new 3.0 style or the older 2.1 style?

Re: Cayman 07, update bluet/ipod...or new 09
Yes, it can be easily added, at least the 2.1, I don't know about the 3.0.
If you have the Sport Chrono I suggest you to ask your dealer to upgrade your software so you can have the Sport Chrono Plus functions. They might be useless to you but in case you needed them a software upgrade does the trick.
If you are on the market for a replacement for the CD24 you might also consider a third party unit, like double din kenwoods or pioneers, so you can have out of the box iPod integration, better navigation, better sound. To be honest the PCM is not worth the money it costs IMHO, I discovered it too late when I had already bought it.
Well it has an advantage... it doesn't ruin the harmony of the dash...

Re: Cayman 07, update bluet/ipod...or new 09
It's very easy to add bluetooth and ipod's to '07's. It costs a few bucks, but it can be done easily. I added bluetooth to my '08. See the above links and/or do your own searches. Even PCM can be added, for a bit more money.
Here are the two articles on how to install the PCM:
PCM 2.1 Install (CDR-24 Radio Removal) - My Articles
PCM Navigation Installation - My Articles
It's looks complicated, sure, but obviously you can hire an expert to do this is you're not interested in DIY. I had an expert do my bluetooth install.
Financially speaking, your far better off to add these items to your '07 (even the high cost PCM). You've already taken a big depreciation hit on your '07 the moment you drove it off the lot. If you buy an '09, you'll take another big depreciation hit. The cost to add bluetooth, ipod and/or PCM to your '07 is far less than the double depreciation you'll take.
There are other factors besides depreciation, though. If you really want an '09 or '10, it might be worth the money to you. That's your decision, and there's not a single person here who doesn't understand the desire for the latest and greatest from Porsche. You might have a problem justifying an '09 or '10 to your wife, but not to us.

I just bought a used 07 and did this:

I'm very happy with the results. I'm sure the 09 stereo still sucks.

Re: Cayman 07, update bluet/ipod...or new 09
I love my tech and couldn't see buying a car without semi modern stereo equipment. Looking at videos on youtube the Denison control seems clunky.
I've been getting some quotes recently and it's anywhere between $1500-$2k for a top of the line double-din head unit w/ ipod, bluetooth and nav including installation. Luckily you don't have bose so you same money replacing the amp. I think you make it out cheaper going the head unit replacement.
