What functionality is lost with aftermarket NAV?

I am considering upgrading from PCM 2.1 (2006 Boxster S) but wondering how much functionality I will lose going this way? I know that the PCM controls things like how the doors open, dynamic music volume etc.
What other specific functionality will I lose going aftermarket?

Are you thinking of an in-dash replacement? That market moves very quickly and innovations make them (including the factory unit) out of date every 18 months or so. You can download the PCM manual from this website to make sure you understand all the functions it controls and decide if you require them once used.

Re: What functionality is lost with aftermarket NAV?

Does that mean that I'm probably better off going aftermarket and using 2009 technology instead? I have to admit that the poor map updates offered by Porsche have made the navigation system a big disappointment as I live in an area with extensive construction and the maps Ihave are always out of date.

Re: What functionality is lost with aftermarket NAV?

I'm sure you will get many different answers on this subject, but I like the aftermarket navs much better.

if you have Bose in your car - it's a lot more difficult since bose uses the optical line to send the signal to the amp/etc. If it's a sound plus or standard package than it's very simple.

I ended up going w/ the Avic F900BT and enjoy it quite a bit. But there are many others out there that are good. There are many hacks/modifications that you can make since it runs a windows ce OS that you can update.

The main thing I lost in the upgrade was the integration w/ the dash for the channel/etc. At the same time, I just made the dash say miles left on the top layer and then mpg underneath it.

The sound is worlds different, I had the sound package plus w/ the cd24 in it before.
