Help with RemoteKey (Mods4Cars) install

I'm not sure where my install went wrong, but here goes.

On Step 6 of the installation:
mods4cars product manual

it states:
6. Insert the male metal tips of the yellow and black wires (just removed in the last step) into the larger one of the two supplied plactic caps (1). Yellow goes in position 1, black goes in position 2.

Then insert the female metal tips on the module's wiring harness into the smaller one of the two supplied plastic caps (2), red in position 1 and black in position 2. - OK so here's where it was unclear: how far in should the metal clips go in? I pushed it a bit hard and it went very far in, the 2 prongs protruding from the ends of the small plastic cap. The instruction also doesn't say how to remove it if I pushed it in too far, nor does it talk about the flap that closes down on the clip (I'm assuming it locks it in place?). Secondly, the larger of the plastic cap has 2 metal prongs in it, and it should go into the 2 little holes provided but it was IMPOSSIBLE to mate the 2 clips together without serious push - I had to adjust the 2 prongs on the larger clip for the small cap to start going in.

Before connecting the two connectors (1) and (2) together, make sure that red meets yellow and black meets black, then push the latches in to lock the metal tips securely in place. Now insert the male metal tips from the module's harness into the plug (3) where the yellow and black wires originally came from. Red replaces yellow in position 1 and black replaces black in position 3. - Ok that being done, should I connect the unit up to the harness? And once Step 7~9 is done (power clips that goes on the red & ground wires), shouldn't the original "smaller plug" that was removed from the bigger black box be put back in with the red & black connectors now in place of the yellow & black connectors? The instruction doesn't say and just tells me to test the connection, and it obviously didn't work, and now I have an airbag warning after I put everything back to stock.

Help is appreciated. I will try this again before selling it.

Re: Help with RemoteKey (Mods4Cars) install

Have you seen this?
Remotekey

It's for an earlier version of the product, the pics are still helpful.

1. Sounds like you pushed it too far in. I think it has the same tab release as the original connector.

2. Yes, the big plug needs to go back together with the modified connector.

You should contact m4c with these questions, as they can give you the best answers...

Re: Help with RemoteKey (Mods4Cars) install

i've emailed m4c via the email link here in this forum, no replies so far (27 hours or so now), hopefully they can shed some light on why the small connector has such a hard time connecting to the large connector.

Re: Help with RemoteKey (Mods4Cars) install

quick question - what does the airbag warning look like? after the install on my car, when i put the key in the airbag light turns on and then turns off after a couple seconds or when the car is started. i don't remember if this is a normal start-up procedure or if there is an airbag fault now stored.

From what you've described, it is working normally - no fault... if it stays on while the motor is running and you;re driving, then that's a fault and should be looked into.

From the owner's manual:

"Faults are indicated by a warning light in the instrument
panel and a message on the on-board computer.
- Please observe the chapter “WARNINGS ON
THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE ONBOARD
COMPUTER” on Page 114.
- In the following cases you should immediately
consult an authorized Porsche
dealer in order to assure the airbag system
is functioning properly:

– If the warning light does not light up when the
ignition key is inserted or
– If the warning light does not go out once the
engine is running or
– If the warning light appears while driving.

Your Owner's Manual has a graphic of the airbag warning that you can refer to.

and as i say this i found their number on the invoice.

here's what i've tried so far:

1. email question(s) via "email Mods4Cars" link here 2 days ago
2. email question(s) directly via an email i got from another member 24 hours ago
3. call their 310 number (SoCal, 3:xxpm) for direct support, no one answered so i left a name & number just about 15 minutes or so ago.

i know they're a sponsor and all, and contribute to the wellbeing of this community, but so far i am NOT impressed with their support.

i've re-installed everything and everything is connected, the LED lights up so i know the power is connected. the car will sound the horn ONCE (not twice as the manual suggested).

this should be a very straight forward install: yellow & black wires from the small connector connects to their red & black wires off the RemoteKey unit, connect the power lines, and voila, it should work, BUT IT'S NOT WORKING and their manual/pictures, while doing a fairly good job, is missing a few steps & points.

Their number at one time was "for technical support or questions please call +1-316-305-7627 (10am-10pm EST)" which may no longer be the correct number. They also had a sales number of 619-330-0901 at one time. Maybe Ken knows?
