Windshield washer fluid reservoir and pump - 0.5 lb

This one isn't worth the trouble to get it out. You have to remove the left front tire and the plastic fender liner to get it.

Note: the tank only holds 2.5 liters of fluid, not 6 liters as previously stated. So the weight reduction for draining all the fluid out is 5.5 lb, not 13 lb as previously stated.

Don't need 'em for an AX!

Okay Fort, I want to see a pic of your car before your next AX. With all this stuff you plan on stripping off it could be a whole new look for the Cayman.

I kept it simple. I ordered a stripped base Cayman.

Without all the motors to run the power seats, the PASM, the sports chrono, the interior leather trims, the seat heaters, the rain-sensor, the NAV, the additional speakers and sub-woofer, less oil in the motor, one less transmission gear, and other associated wires and knobs, I must be at least 100 lbs lighter than most CS on this board.

Has anyone thought how much the fuel weighs? It seems pretty pointless running an AX with a full tank!!

OK other suggestions for removal, the rear center console, the two panels either side of the PCM/CDR-23, the fuse box cover, the rear view mirror (AX only) and the glove box door on the passenger side.

The glass in your car is extremly heavy, underbody sound deadener, body caulk, head liner and the insulating pad behind it. Under your carpet in the floor is more padding/sound deadener. Has anybody weighed their snorkel yet? That is if you still have it.

How about replacing ALL of your nuts and bolts with Titanium nuts and bolts. The nice folks over at YOYODYNE would be glad to give you a discount on that many nuts and bolts. Now there would be some weight savings. Of course you would have the added benefit of a lighter wallet too.

I sure hope that there isn't a stock Cayman that can beat you, Fort.

On a separate note, I did feel a big bump in acceleration when I mixed in some 100 octane at about 50/50 with 91 octane gas at the track for the first time in my 3.2 whereas my 2.7 didn't seem to feel so dramatically more powerful.

Don't forget to "go heaby" octane.

If you don't have headlight washers, the 2.5l is correct. With headlight washers is the aforementioned 6l. Interesting discovery though - had to look that up and was surprised by the difference.

There are LOTS of Cayman drivers who are faster than me (even in their stock cars)!! How's that go - the most important nut is the one holding the wheel? I've got a lot to learn as a driver to be competitive.

But this thread isn't about me or my car. It's about gathering data so people can make informed choices about what can be done to reduce weight.

In an earlier thread, I believe. 6.4 lbs/USG for those non-metric types. Just think of the ability to balance the car!

6.15 lbs/USG @ 60 degrees F. (Diesel is about 7.1 lbs).

To minimize confusion for others between our two posts and without getting real picky, the formulation, and therefore the specific gravity can change. 5.83 to 6.6 lbs/USG (which equates to a specific gravity range of 0.7 to 0.8) is a commonly accepted range, backed up by Shell and Chevron MSDS's. For instance, a lot more butane can be used in formulating gasoline for winter use in some parts, as it is needed to help the vapour pressure spec. for that time of year, but is reduced in warmer months due to possible vapour lock issues. Depending on the price of butane relative to gasoline, a refiner can optimize the percentage of this and lots of other components. This all affects the specific gravity giving varying numbers.

C'mon Fort, all these part pictures, I want to see the car stripped down. I know you had to have snapped at least one pic of your disfigured Cayman at the AX last weekend.

I ended up taking the wife & kids to the AX. They had a great time driving the course, but I was too busy with them to do the post-arrival strip down. Sorry! Maybe next AX - Aug 2.

I don't know if you're old enough to remember those old Chevy Camaro adds about road hugging weight (or am I just making that up?!), but my 250# should provide lots of grip if nothing else!
