Fort have you gotten yours on a scale yet? You should just completely strip it out, sound deadening is surprisingly heavy. I would love to do it my wife would never ride in the CS again, have to wait until I get another car.

That's a good point about whether the OEM weight includes fluids or not. I'll see if I can sort that out. I was assuming that it included things like oil, but not gas. I don't know why I assumed that... I guess I'm conditioned that way since aircraft weights never include fuel, and I'm an airplane guy.
My wife doesn't like my car, either. She LOVES her Audi S4, and regards the Cayman as uncomfortable. I think this is a positive, as I am free to make the car even more uncomfortable without any complaints!
I have not had my car weighed, yet. I will weigh it this winter when I get it corner balanced.

Re: Weight Reduction
May skip the GTR and get an S5 for the wife so I can turn the CS into a real track car. Keep it up and definitely update the thread when you get on the scales!

Re: Weight Reduction
I did some looking into the definition of 'empty' weight in the G-Tech timer thread. Here's what I stated there in reference to Porsches stated acceleration figures:
***The manual states 5.1s with this comment * At DIN empty weight and half load, without performance-inhibiting extra equipment.* From the manual, it has 2954lbs for the lowest empty weight (and I can't think of any accessories which 'enhance' the acceleration), and 3594 lbs as the maximum gross weight.***
When I looked up the DIN standard, as far as I got was that it APPEARS to be DIN 70020 but I ran into documents in German and had translation difficulties.
Hope this is of some help....

Re: Weight Reduction
Is DIN the euro standard that contains driver and some luggage? I remember BMW states weight that way.

Rear Underbody Cover - 2 lbs
Useless in an AX. It takes about a minute to remove it if the car is on jackstands or a lift.
Enquiring minds will want to know... why would I have my car up on jackstands, and then remove the rear underbody cover (besides the fact that I'm completely nuts about weight reduction)??? Stay tuned...

Aren't you afraid that the cones you plow over will get wedged up under the car without that deflector shield?

Rear Plastic Trim - 11.5 lbs
This is the rest of the plastic trim in the rear luggage compartment. The 1st batch was shown here. Removing this stuff is not for the faint of heart, or those who insist on a pristine car. If you've never done it before, it's very hard to get this stuff out without damaging anything. This article by K-Man S was a big help, but it's still a challenge. You have to temporarily disconnect your seat belts to get the bins out.
On the plus side though, after extensive testing I can now confirm that no matter how rough the road, this stuff WILL NOT squeak when it's sitting on a shelf in your garage!
So far in the interior gutting department we have:
11.5 Rear plastic trim
16.5 Rear boot carpet & trim
10.5 carpet on top of engine cover
7.5 carpet & trim on front wall of engine compartment
0.5 video camera mounting bar
50.5 passenger seat
_____
97.0 lbs
Still to come:
Trim on underside of rear hatch & "trunk clunk" ballast weight
Door panels, side windows and lifts
The rest of the carpet in the passenger compartment
Dash & glove box items
AX season is coming!!

Crikey, you may just as well strip the entire car.

That seems to be his plan . . .
We want to see a picture of the interior of the car when you're done.

If I do everything described in this thread, including putting on my RS98's w/ Hoosiers (which I can't afford to purchase...), it's up to 257 lb. My car has no options except heated seats (est. 4 lb), Bose (est. 10 lb), and PASM (est. 2 lb), so it should have been delivered very close to the official 2954 lb factory claim. All this weight reduction brings it down to an estimated 2713 (some mods like the IVOS have added weight). I'll get actual weights when I corner balance the car later this spring.

PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
|
 |
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

Re: Weight Reduction
I think the Bose is more than 10 lbs. Somebody on Rennlist took it off and it was more than that. I don't remember how much though...
PASM is only 2 lbs?
How much is the SC?
I know the xenons headlights are heavy too.

Re: Weight Reduction
The Bose amp & subwoofer weigh 10.5 lbs together. I can't image there's much difference in the speakers, but perhaps I should estimate 12 lbs instead of 10. The 2 lbs for PASM is just a guess.

Re: Weight Reduction
Wouldn't it have been easier to just have bought a body-in-white (like RUF) and then add in only the things you want? Engine, suspension, etc?
It's certainly entertaining, reading about your weight-loss adventures....

I found the BIW part number a few months ago, but the Tischer online parts ordering system wouldn't accept it. Oh well...
