Gen 2 Gen 1 Suspension
Plan on upgrading to PSS10's ( PASM)
I also plan on upgrading to a Gen 2 in the future.
A few Q's
Are the PSS10's the same for a Gen 1 and Gen2 ?
Same question re 996 Gt3 LCA's ?
thanks in advance

PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
|
 |
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

Re: Gen 2 Gen 1 Suspension
I would not think that going from PSS10s to Cayman Gen2 struts/shocks would be an upgrade if that's what you mean. Just purchase something that you can use long-term now without having to change 2 years down the road.
996 LCAs not the same, and I would not recommend them, think of 997 GT3 LCAs if you at want to, but why not go to Tarrett or GMG LCAs? Similar cost and better IMO.

I thought he meant he wants to put PSS10s and GT3 LCAs on his gen1.
And he wants to know if he can transfer them to a gen2 when he gets one.

996 GT3 LCA's don't fit Gen 2 caymans? What a shame. Much cheaper than 997 GT3 LCA's. And Tarrett units ARE 996 GT3 LCA's. Don't know of any advantage of 997 GT3 LCA's

Re: Gen 2 Gen 1 Suspension
Correct, I plan on upgrading to a gen 2 in the future. Ideally, I'd like to invest into something I can carry over.
where can I get prices on 997 GT3 LCA's ?

Re: Gen 2 Gen 1 Suspension
My understanding is the 996 LCA's are a direct bolt on but 997 aren't? I haven't confirmed this about the 997 LCA but it seems like most people use the 996 on the CS.

Either the 996 or the 997 GT3 LCA will bolt in without a problem. The only difference is that the 996 has rubber mounts and the 997 has solid mounts.
The 996 LCA are much less expensive and allow the same adjustability, but will not be as rigid. Some race organizations only allow the installation of the 996 rubber mount LCAs (e.g., POC).
Neither Tarett nor GMG manufacture LCAs, they only re-sell the OEM parts through their websites, so they can not be any better. Ira at Tarett does make a monoball mount for the LCA, but not the control arm itself.
We set a new POC LI class record at Willow Springs this weekend (1:33.9) running the 996 arms so they can be that bad.
Cheers,

Interesting. Make sure your quote is for all necessary parts and not just for the arm. Other parts needed are the internal pivots, trailing arms, shims, hardware, etc.
Also, if you are going to use the arms for competition you should check and make sure the "cup" arms are legal in your class/club as many classes do not allow the solid mounts installed on the 997 or cup car arms.
Cheers,
