My New Interior Mod
Just had my long awaited interior mod completed. Went with the BumperPlugs.com products that Eric sells. Rear Console and Upper Door Trim pieces done in Carrara White to match the exterior color, roll hoops and gauges. I think it looks amazing but if I didn't than I'd have been stupid to do it! Bigger install than I realized but Detailing Dynamics did a great job handling my car. Matt works on each car as if it were his own. I highly recommend both vendors for their outstanding work and passion for our cars. Hope you like it and maybe it'll give you some ideas.

Where did you get the mats with the Porsche logo? I thought that was a big no-no with the crest on the floor.

Re: My New Interior Mod
Got them on Ebay for the interior and then worked with the dealer on matching pieces for the front and rear trunks. Took us several shots at getting the rear trunk right but they finally go it perfect. When I get home I'll try and find his site for you all. Hey Pete, What did you mean by a "No No" on the crests for the interior floor? Porsche didn't want them being used where they would be stepped on? I just think they look great there and bring in the crest on the steering wheel.

Re: My New Interior Mod
Hi Marc,
I remember reading about how Porsche refused permission for Lloyd mats to use the crest logo on a floor mat exactly for the reason mentioned, stepping on the shield.
I heard the following interesting story about a local Porsche dealership. The owner had just completed a renovation of his showroom and lot. One of the centerpieces was a large Porsche crest carved into the concrete walkway in front of the main entrance. He didn't get approval for this from HQ thinking it was no big deal, but when someone from HQ finally saw this, the dealer was forced to tear apart and replace the walkway at great expense.
I think the mats look great however, but I'm such a klutz that nice looking crest would probably be black after a few days of me stepping all over it...

Re: My New Interior Mod
I'm such a clean freak Pete that I generally ride around with a black towel over the mat so I don't screw up the shield. If anyone is interested in the sellers name he's on ebay and goes by europeanfloormats. I don't presently see any Porsche mats listed on his site but if you're interested contact him and I'm sure he'll make them up. He has a 100% approval rating and from my own experience I know he sent me 2 "wrong" rear trunk mats till he asked me to outline a template myself that I liked and he would match it. He did and it fits and looks perfect. I actually tried the Lloyd mats first. Ordered a 4 piece set with "Porsche" in the usual red block type and "Boxster" in its usual logo style in white or silver, I forget. Arrived with just one of the two embroidered. Asked me to send them back and they would add the missing name. I explained that whatever name was added the combined image would not be centered properly as the single name already embroidered was centered by itself. "Oh yeah" was the response. Got my credit and found Europeanfloormats. Hope the info helps those interested.

Hey Mark,
Your mods look great. Did you do the swap out yourself or did you have someone do it for you? If you did it yourself, did you find it difficult?

I graduated from UM in '85... Know what you mean about stepping on the 'nole... I'd have done worse...
'canes have really gone down hill in the last 10? years..
Anyway, I too noticed the Porsche emblems in the floor mats and like them.

Re: My New Interior Mod
Miles I had someone do the install for me. The rear center dash may have been doable by the average owner but the upper door trim pieces were way too involved. Besides taking off the door panels and disconnecting all the electrics in the doors you then have to drill out 8-9 plugs on each door to release the original pieces. Those pieces are throw aways. The new pieces go in the same way but in order to secure them in place they have to be burned into position by melting the piece down to form sort of a rivet. I imagine Porsche does it in one motion with a special press of some sort. The installer needed to use a portable Butane soldering gun to melt the plug down. Hes done several installs, not something I'd want to do for the first time. Luckily for me my installer let me work with him thru the whole install so it definitely gave me the confidence to try other things on my own but there are so many things that get removed and need to be reinstalled that I'd be afraid I'd forget something. The install by a pro was a solid 3+ hours with my help.

I've ordered the center console & door trim from Eric as well, and plan to do the install myself. As usual, there are excellent write-ups in the articles section for both of these procedures. Here is the one for the door trim:
Porsche Door Panel / Finisher Removal
Although I don't plan on using screws as the article author does. (This is really necessary if you plan on re-using the trim piece you remove.) I'll use one of my electric soldering guns most likely. I've also ordered a couple of door anchors (2 bux a piece) in case I break one or two of them removing the door panel
I'm also thinking of having him paint the triangle trim piece that fits right along the A-pillar, directly behind the side view mirror. Has anyone done this? I think this would just be a custom job where I would take mine off and send to him.

Re: My New Interior Mod
Can't imagine reusing the door pieces coming off because in order to get them off you have to drill out the plugs and bang the pieces out. I can possibly see installing the new pieces w/out soldering them so if for some reason you ever wanted to take them off you wouldn't have to drill them out but if Porsche didn't install them with screws there must have been a good reason (probably economics, and a one shot press and melt machine). The pieces you're suggesting in the corners might look nice done. Post some pics when you're done. I'd just go to a dealer and buy the 2 pieces (they can't be too expensive) and send them to Eric. When they're painted he'll send then back and then you can install them at your leisure. You may then want to inquire if Eric would then be interested in buying your 2 originals once you make the swap so he'll have them for someone elses future core exchange. Just my 2 cents.
