now how cool would this be in your Cayman....you spend umpteen dollars only to apply plastic pieces to look like real wood

Re: Wood grain trim kit

I added a wood kit like this to a 1997 GMC Suburban and I must say, it really looked nice....

Re: Wood grain trim kit

I did it back when I had an M Edition Miata. I also did it to my VW Bug back in the 70's. It looked very nice in both cars and it was real wood and very easy to apply.

I'm impressed by the example installations. Maybe they can offer a plastic SUV style wood attachment for the middle of the Cayman dash with integral plastic cupholders on top. I was also hoping they could offer a column-shift adapter for those folks with Tiptronic.

Re: Wood grain trim kit

I noticed on the Ebay link that one of the other 12 "material" choices was Carbon Fiber. I guess you could always go with that choice as described in the link. Might not look all that bad. Of course, I'm not signing up to be the guinea pig........

Re: Wood grain trim kit

They certainly sold a lot of those, judging from their feedback. Rich men.

Re: Wood grain trim kit

Eew!
Wood has no place inside a sports car (or any car really) IMO.

Careful..........

Many of the older original sports cars used wood frames..... Check out the early Morgans... Morgan wood frame assembly preparation pictures from cars photos on webshots

What about the old "woodies" that were revived by the surfers?

Well... its really my personal opinion
The Morgans sure are pretty... I'll revise:

Wood shouldn't have a place in modern sports cars. Especially not as an aesthetic.

Would you rate this as a good decision?

Re: Wood grain trim kit

Real wood (interior, anyway) does enhance sport SEDANS, though. I thought the real wood I had in my BMW 325i (premium package) on my dash and shift knob looked light years richer than the fake aluminum/plastic trim which was standard. Mercedes benefitted from wood back in their day (90's and earlier), although their newer dash/interior designs look too gimmicky to be enhanced by wood.

That said, wood steering wheels, shift knobs, and handbrakes have always been a traditional sports car accessory - I used to remember, as a kid, seeing MGA's with those.
