Performance Friction 2 piece rotors?

I have a line on some Performance Friction 2 piece rotors for the front brakes of a 996 Porsche. Will they fit my 06 Cayman S? I have searched the some of the threads dealing with rotors and have not come across anyone mentioning doing this and Performance Friction does not list any Cayman rotors. This leads me to conclude there must be a problem fitting them on my car. The shop selling them seems to believe they will work and is willing to let me install them before I buy them. Before I went to the trouble of trying to put them on I wonder if someone could give me a definitive answer. Thanks.

Re: Performance Friction 2 piece rotors?

Not sure if this is definitive, but if you go to Automotion or Pelican Parts and look for Cayman S rotors, they list same part #s for 996 C2.

Re: Performance Friction 2 piece rotors?

Carerra (NONE "S") brakes in both 996 and 997 guise are the same as the Cayman "S", But the Carerra has the Calipers painted Black.
Rotors and offsets are the same though, and Rotor size front is 318mm rear 299mm

The Carerra "S" has 330mm Rotors front and rear (Commonly classed as "Big Reds" taken from the Turbo)

Re: Performance Friction 2 piece rotors?

The PFC direct drive rotors for the 996 will fit your Cayman S with no modifications. We have done this more than once. The are a perfect fit. For track use I would recommend PFC race compound 97 or Pagid RS29. I personally prefer the feel of the PFC97. And don't forget to upgrade your brake fluid to something like Motul RBF600 or Pentosin Racing, the stock Pentosin Super DOT 4 doesn't quite cut it.

Re: Performance Friction 2 piece rotors?

I have been using PFC rotors for about a year, perfect fit and performance, very satisfied.

bringing this up again - I too am interested in these rotors -- and the PFC 97 pads;

Great info on using the 996 (non-S) rotors -- a couple of questions on these pads:

1) are the 97 -compound pads streetable or track-only ? i.e. I'm looking for a great street pad which won't let me down on the few track days I run. And my track days are run on my street all-season tires ... I may buy a set of 'summer' wheels+tires but no R-compound stuff ...

thoughts?

2) do the PFC 97 pads have the slots for the brake wear sensors?

thanks,

-PM.

Re: Performance Friction 2 piece rotors?

FT - Question on your brake cooling set up.
It looks like the splash shield behind the rotor is still in place with a hole in it for the cooling air to access the rotor. Is that correct?

thanks, Dave

Re: Performance Friction 2 piece rotors?

The PFC97 pads work well cold but they are not suitable for street use because they are very noisy in street use and when the dust gets wet it eats the finish on your wheels. I've never been one to recommend one pad for street and track use I always recommend track pads for the track and street pads for the street.

Ok - what do you suggest for a great street pad? I'll get the 97 compound pads for the track.

thanks for the reply,

-PM.

Re: Performance Friction 2 piece rotors?

This is not a sexy answer but I like the stock Porsche pads for the street. I prefer the Textar version over than the Pagid version, it gives a little bit better pedal feel. That is a personal preference though.

I find the stock pads a little vague until they bite - unsettling. Any other suggestions for a pad w/ a more definite initial feel ? some years ago I ran porterfield R4S pads and liked them.

Re: Performance Friction 2 piece rotors?

I am a fan of the R4S but it does not have very good cold bite relative to the stock pad and I have been able to overwhelm them in various cars (not Porsche) during spirited runs in the VT mountains. Unfortunately for you I like the Stock pad so I don't have another recommendation for you for street use. There a plenty of other guys on here that have tride various other pads. You might try searching the forum for alternatives.

Re: Performance Friction 2 piece rotors?

Do you find teh PFC97 and stock pads to be compatible? Able to swap between without drama?

On my Audi I ended up with a Brembo branded pads (brembo calipers) - both ceramic based, one for street and one for track. No need to rebed when swapping as compounds were similiar and very compatible. I would love to find that combo for the porsche as well.

FT,
Would you mind posting more pics of the brake cooling hose (how it's attached to the front grill and the shield), thanks !

Dave, basically yes. We left the original dust covers on as this is a DD car for me. However, they also constructed an addition to it with the proper hole in it, which is heat resistant and attaches on top of the original dust cover.

yes the link is: Brake Cooling - The Proper Way - Rennlist Discussion Forums

I have to admit I was not expecting this solution to last as long as it has and I thought it is going to create some issues for me in that I would have to maintain and take care of the ducts, hoses, etc. But after two season of tracking, it has not required anything at all. I hope it lasts a little more.

Re: Performance Friction 2 piece rotors?

BIG fan of Pagid BlLues here for a dual use pad, but they are fairly dusty

Re: Performance Friction 2 piece rotors?

Will the pagid blue have any clearance issues with the PFC 2 piece rotors?

I was told that the pagid race pads had clearance issues.
