SRP Vacuum Hose Issue

Hi Guys, I had the SRP and 4.1 Flash fitted this weekend.

On a few drives, I have noticed a moment of 'gasping' for a second or two.

I took of the engine cover and got a friend to rev it, I noticed the Vacuum hose that goes from the Right of the Plenum was sucking in and kinked.

I trimmed a bit off the ends, but still have the same problem.

Anyone know whether this is ok or not? It looks like a design defect.

Help!

Re: SRP Vacuum Hose Issue

By "vacuum hose" are you refering to the larger hose that connects the plenum to the AOS (air-oil seperator)? When looking from the back of the car, it would be a larger hose on the right side of the plenum...makes a couple bends and connects to a plastic thing (AOS unit) about 6-8 inches away from the plenum at the back/right side of the engine?

That hose needs to be clear. From your description, it's kinked/blocked, with vacuum "sucking" it in. That hose is tough to get installed properly so that it doesn't kink. I had to work on mine for a while. You should get that fixed...It requires some patience and trimming...twist and turn until the kink is minimized and/or eliminated.

Hope this helps...

Re: SRP Vacuum Hose Issue

That is exactly what i am referring to, I have played around and trimmed it as best I can, but it still sucks in, it doesnt get completely blocked now, but it still sucks in by about 60%

I think I need a new hose, or to look at other options

Is it ok to Drive like this until I sort something out?

Thanks for your quick response

Re: SRP Vacuum Hose Issue

60% blockage is significant. If it were me, I'd avoid driving it until that issue is corrected. Obviously, a trip to the shop is ok, but otherwise...I'd keep the miles off until fixed.

Like I said...it takes some patience to get it right. That hose is installed with the plenum turned up to make access to it easier. I found you have to actually install it kinked so that when you turn the plenum down into it's final position, it "unkinks" and is clear. Where the hose connects to the AOS is the really tough part of the install. If possible, loosen the hose clamp and twist it back and forth noting the effect on your blockage, but be careful, as the AOS is only plastic...

Trip back to the shop that performed the install may be the way to go if you aren't comfortable with messing with it yourself. They really shouldn't have let the car go with that hose blocked...

Re: SRP Vacuum Hose Issue

Another thought to throw into the mix. If the AOS or hose itself was blocked it would tend to collapse. Getting the hose onto the AOS is challenging even with lube. If a flap of hose was shaved off perhaps this would happen.

Re: SRP Vacuum Hose Issue

Hello,

The hose that you are referring to is for the Oil separator and will or can close down without positive crankcase pressure. This can be normal and would not affect the performance of the car as it is a scavenge line.

Best,
Scott

Re: SRP Vacuum Hose Issue

I'm not sure if this is relevant to your issue but my stock car has a gasp sound (most noticeable in 4th or 5th) when applying abrupt throttle. It sounds like it's taking in a big gulp of air before diving in.

I'm almost certain that's the front middle pipe opening. As you look at the engine from the boot, there's two pipes connecting the two banks of plenums. One that connects the two and has a butterfly, and one closer to you that has another butterfly and goes to the intake. It's this second one that's removed and replaced in the SRP install. I think the "whooshing" noise you hear is the butterfly on the forward one. This is either partially, fully, or not open, depending on setting. When you apply abrupt throttle, the plenum opens quickly, and starts sucking in, while that intermediate takes a small hysteresis time to open. While it's opening, the air rushing past it makes that little sucking noise. I may be wrong, however.

Re: SRP Vacuum Hose Issue

Ok phew,

I'm going to upgrade to a silicone hose anyway, will this have any detrimental effect?

thanks

No it would have no detrimental affect however it may do the same thing anyways.
