Re: New Arrival
Great car. I built a similar CS, and am anxiously awaiting its arrival. Last I checked, it was in "paint" with an estimated arrival in early April. Arctic silver, cocoa, 18s (but I really like those 19's you have), BOSE, thick steering wheel, PCM...seeing the new pics and hearing how everyone loves the new cars, thinking this might be my greatest purchase ever!
Couple questions...did you get a good deal and are you going to install a clear bra?? I got about 5% off msrp, and am really on the fence about a clear bra.
Thanks, and enjoy your new car.

Re: New Arrival
Super guy I had planned on white with biege int. also the Cron + pkg. Wound up with Basalt B/B int. and Sport Cron but not the + Car had every thing else though. We bought 2 one of the Limited boxsters for my wife to boot. I get a lot off from being a long time buyer but what they gave me this time was ridiculous. Had to take it Cool car loaded but minus 1 thing I wanted. Would not go back for the world now. Good to see you get your ride let us know how you like the 09!!

Shitty deal, TBH. Dealership doesn't like to negotiate on ordered cars, and considering this was their first production slot (so, first ordered car delivered), and there was no way I wasn't going to buy the car, I didn't put up much of a fight.
Didn't go for clear bra as I have still never seen an installation I'd be satisfied with. They also say the new products are much better and won't discolor over time, but I can't say I believe them.

Congrats!
Please don't put a front plate on that clean bumper!

Re: New Arrival
Thanks ccollins. Jealous that you got your CS first, and enjoy every minute of it. As far as the deal is concerned, my dealership wouldn't negotiate on the first build slot either...I ended up locking in a late Feb build (it was their 3rd or 4th), which is why I'm still waiting. And agree on the clear bra...dealership wants $1500 for partial front, and the clear bra jobs on their showroom cars looked half-assed.

Re: congratulations!
nice car... barrier is difficult to get away w/ a discount on any car.
quick question - did you drive a manual pre- DFI car? can you talk about how the DFI motor feels compared to its predecessor? all the reviews i've read tie PDK in, and like you, i'm not going to go w/ a PDK should i get an '09. thanks!

DFI
|
 |
Direct Fuel Injection (DFI), is a new technology that Porsche states can cut fuel consumption by up to 15 percent, while increasing power by up to 13 percent. DFI cuts emissions by warming up the catalytic converter more quickly, and ensures a sharper throttle response. Better for your right foot - and the planet, then.
DFI allows much more precise measurement of fuel supply and injection at pressures up to 120 bar; it has numerous combustion modes, with different cycles for cold-starting, low-speed driving and performance driving.
As the name suggests, DFI injects fuel directly into the individual combustion chambers, instead of the intake manifold. The injector valves have an electromagnetic mechanism that controls each injection with astonishing precision, while a high-pressure pump provides the necessary pressure—up to 1,740 psi—to accompany the rapid fire of the fuel injection.
Precise geometry of the injector’s position and its spray pattern is a key factor in helping to improve power, torque and emissions of the engines. The specific placement of the fuel as it enters each chamber creates a swirl that improves the air/fuel mixture, and therefore the overall combustion process.
At engine speeds up to 3500 rpm, a double-injection process is used. In this mode, the required fuel volume is delivered in two successive injections per working stroke. The resulting benefits include faster catalyst warm-up and increased torque in the upper load range.
By forming the air/fuel mix directly in the combustion chamber, DFI contributes to engine cooling. As a result, it is possible to increase the compression ratio and with it the power and efficiency of the engine.
The direct injection process is continuously adjusted. The engine management system reads changes to throttle inputs and performance requirements and, as you drive, the air/fuel mix is monitored and adapted as required. Oxygen sensor circuits within the exhaust system provide accurate emissions control. |

I did, but only briefly in a test drive. I remember being initially disappointed with the sound, it sounded great with your foot to the floor but just tooling around it was rather pedestrian. The new car has a great sound no matter what you're doing.
I don't know that I can really compare them more than that, as I wasn't as intimately familiar with the previous car.
I also recall, but could be making this up as it was only my first test drive, that the (non sport) shifter in the original car was rather floppy and and almost loose feeling. The action in my '09 is still rather light (much lighter than my outgoing MINI Cooper S) but it is still very precise feeling. I quite like it.
