Windows going down by themselves???

OK, this has happened twice now.

First time got home, parked, took something out of the rear trunk, locked the car. Everything was secure. When I came back in the morning the passenger's side window was halfway down. The car was still locked. This was two days ago.

Today, I went into the grocery store and came back after about 30 minutes and the same thing had happened. Passenger's side window down about half way.

Has anybody else experienced this? I could not find anything using search. But funny enough I did just watch the episode of Top Gear the other day when Jeremy was teasing James about the windows of his Boxter working when he wasn't around. Guess I have the same thing going on.

Try to reset the windows, it's in the manual.

Re: Windows going down by themselves???

I had the same problem. There was Also a thread called “Passenger Window Ghost ? “Regarding this same problem. I ended up taking it to the dealer and they had to replace a couple of parts.

Thanks for the link to the post but my problem seems a little different than yours as my windows would roll up fine, but then come back down later when I wasn't around.

Well it has been 2 full days and no reoccurance. I spoke to my service advisor today and he restated the same that was said in the other thread, that sometimes they do loose their limit and have to be reset. I hope that was it but I will keep you guys informed.

cheeIO,

Here is what I posted for the parts they replaced.

"As promised her are the part numbers for the window ghost problem. The service guy said it is tricky to trouble shoot because of the pinch sensor it could involve replacing the switch (99761315603AO5) or the motor (99762418203) in my case it was both."

Re: Windows going down by themselves???

OK, it happened again and I figured out part of it.

Thinking back, each time this happened I had gone to the rear trunk and then sat in the car and noticed the window was down.

This last time I realized that the opening of the trunk was starting the whole deal. I have tried to reproduce this and it doesn't happen everytime, but I got it to malfunction twice in about ten tries. Here's how it works:

I open the trunk. (I had the dealership program the PIWIS to drop the windows about 3 inches when the trunk opens.)

Next, when I close the trunk, instead of the window going all the way back up it looked like it went back up about 1/2" similar to when the doors are opened regularly. Then it immediately went back down about 6 inches and stayed there leaving the window partially open.

Hmmm. Guess another call to the dealer tomorrow.
greycroc, thank you for the part numbers. I will bring them up with Service.

Re: Windows going down by themselves???

Just a shot in the dark, but make sure the window is not catching on anything on the way up. Clean the edge of the glass and maybe find something to lube the rubber section at bit. Ugh, that didn't sound too family friendly!

My guess is that something may be causing a pinch protection mechanism to kick in and lower the window all the way.

On my G35, the rubber guides for the windows actually dried out enough that the window would bind on the way up and down. This played havoc with the one-touch up/down operation. The dealer tech took one look and sprayed lube all around the window frame to fix it. Told me he saw this all the time.

Good luck!

That's a good point. I'll take that into consideration. Thanks PistolPete13.
