Exclamation Weird sounds from front left wheel well!

Just got back from my second track day (more to follow ) but unfortunately there seems to be some sort of problem with the car.

The track was ~500kms away, the car drove fine all the way there and then at night we were parked at the track lot for a gathering. Just as we were leaving for our hotel I noticed a strange noise coming from the left front of the car while moving slowly over road imperfections, I am almost freaked out, all sorts of things jumped into my head, from steering linkage problems to shock absorber not tightened. I'm not sure what is the cause but I think it could also be the fiber panel covering the wheel well, I took it off and found nothing wrong with it, put it back on the noise disappeared for a while then came back. The car handles fine and I drove the 500km trip back with no problems, albeit with that noise coming again and again!

Now those scary thoughts are coming to me again. Could something be wrong with the suspension? I had my camber set to -0.8 front at the dealer, could that have caused the problem? I'm starting to get worried!

Re: Weird sounds from front left wheel well!

Not sure if this will help, but I recently thought I had a problem with my rear wheel well when I heard a consistent knocking sound coming from that area. Turns out I had a loose object....in the center console storage area!

Check for any loose items in the cabin first before going completely nuts.

Good luck!

Re: Weird sounds from front left wheel well!

Is it possible something maybe stuck in your wheel like a small stone? This happened to me. At slow speeds especially making a right turn, I hear this awful scrapping sound. Long story short, it was a small stone lodged in the rear wheel on the side. Freaked me right out!

Trunk monkeys. Remember there are two trunks in a Cayman. Damn trunk monkeys.

Re: Weird sounds from front left wheel well!

I had a similar problem after changing the springs. After a few hundred miles, things settled and I started getting a horrid noise over road imperfections. I re-tightened the bolt on top of the shock tower and all is fine!

Re: Weird sounds from front left wheel well!

Yesterday....after an awesome day of taking on some curves in the hill country. I was pulling into the drive (left turn) and heard a rapid clicking sound. It was a crawl speed with the brakes lightly applied. I know I don't have warped rotors. The paved road through Waring, Texas is a little bumpy (no potholes or anything like that....just an old, un-even country road).

I'm kinda' thinking about it also......the last people to touch this car was the dealership last month during the 20K and 4-wheel alignment service they suggested.

Hmmmmm.....
