Stuck in 3rd Gear

I was driving home from work this past Friday and tried to downshift from 3rd to second. I felt a kind of pop in the shifter and it went completely loose but I stayed in 3rd. The car stayed in that gear and would not shift into anything else. I called service from my driveway and they told me to call roadside assistance and have it towed in. Roadside was very nice and within an hour and a half a flat bed arrived and took it away. My service advisor told me they would take a look on Monday and if necessary have a loaner for me by Monday night. He thinks that the cable has popped from the shifter.

Possibly agree with the above but it's more likely to be a broken shift link on the bottom of the shifter.

Re: Stuck in 3rd Gear

They have had time to look at it and believe it is a snapped cable. Part coming overnight from Atlanta and should be able to pick it tomorrow night.

Happened to me twice, left me stranded, looks that the second time they got it right.

Cheers.
