ft hood
Help, help. I stored 07 Cayman for the winter and disconnected the battery cable while storing. I used a doner battery to open the ft hood to connect the cable, but it does not work. I assume becasue the cable is disconnected. is there anyone who know how to open the ft hood manually ?

Re: ft hood
Something to do with the fuse box? There are posts on this site regarding this "problem"

Re: ft hood
There's an plug in the drivers foot well fuse panel but if you disconnected the cables then there no for circuit to be completed. This would apply to your use of donor battery. You need to be connected directly to the cables.
Also there is an emergency release pull in the front right headlight or grill area. Check your owners manual which is probably locked in your car - right ?

Re: ft hood
Did you hook up the positive jumper to the red pull out post on the fuse box? Then use the chrome door striker as the ground for the negative? Use the front hood release remote button on the key to open the hood, not the release button on the rocker trim. This should work. Good luck.

Re: ft hood
The procedure outlined above will not work if you disconnected the battery cable. You will have to remove a wheel and panel to get to the cable or call Porsche roadside service.
This is what a search turned up "There is a mechanical backup cable release for the trunk lock. It is meant to be used if part of the electrical opening system fails, such as the solenoid, so it's not easily found. To access it you must jack up the car, remove the left front wheel, remove the fender liner & you'll see the loop pull handle of the cable." Thanks to STLPCA's post.

It may still be worth trying - I have tested it with the battery disconnected, and you can still activate the latch solenoid (though I didn't have the guts to try it with the front lid closed and latched) - I think it works by a direct bypass connection to the solenoid, rather than "boosting" the battery.

Re: ft hood
KS-CS, I sure would try that first. I suppose one of those battery booster gizmos that are meant to be plugged in the socket might work in that case?

I've been meaning to test that route (I'll try to remember to test it next week when I switch out my battery for the track) - however, I suspect that a socket charger or booster would only work if the battery is connected, since it would be using the regular circuit to activate the latch mechanism.
Anyway, if that fails, here's the link to some pictures showing the manual cable release in the left front fender:

That actually sounds like a good afternoon to me. Michigan is still a little far away for me too.
Good luck!

Re: ft hood
Thank you everyone for all your infomation. That red plug thing with the a battery worked. I can tell you that even without the cable connected< a doner battery connection actually worked. Thanks everyone.

Re: ft hood
Glad it worked out for you. If you follow the procedure I recommended, it will work every time. Being that your supplying an additional 12vlt source and ground for the battery, the original battery is not in play in the circuit. Never doubted it would work.
