Loose Seat - Am I Being too Precious?
My driver's side seat has got a slight wobble to it.
When I accelerate from a stop it shifts backwards a little bit. There's a bit of play.
It's annoying, it's like having a pebble in your shoe, it's slightly aggravating all the time.
Anyway, took it to the dealer today, they thought the fixed it but the didn't so it's back to the dealer again tomorrow.
Anything else I can say to describe the problem? Are my expectations unreasonable? Do all seats have a bit of wobble? The passenger seat doesn't move at all.
Argh! Why does every problem always require two trips to the dealer?

Re: Loose Seat - Am I Being too Precious?
Mine don't wobble, I have sport seats, and they've been in and out of the car more times than I can remember. If it is annoying then see if they can fix it, also drive one of their other Caymans when you are at the dealership and compare the seats just to make sure you aren't feeling something that is there in all seats. What may seem like a wobble to you, may be something I don't even notice.

Re: Loose Seat - Am I Being too Precious?
Both my brand new Mini and my Cayman have a very very very slight knock
not a wobble as such just a slight knock which can change if you put some pressure on it ie rase it 1 mm, if you have it rock bottom.
Been to BMW and Porsche dealers both cannot fix it.
I am used to fixed seats from my CSL and Lotus i guess.

Re: Loose Seat - Am I Being too Precious?
I had a similar sense of my driver seat shifting a very tiny bit when coming to a stop. I mentioned it to my dealer when the car was in for its first service. They didn't find anything amiss, but supposedly made sure the bolts were tight. I haven't noticed it since, but I've also beeen 'enjoying' the car more and more. My mind might be elsewhere.

I appreciate the responses as always.
I went back to the dealer this morning and the service advisor immediately turned me over to the tech who did the work the day before.
The tech was a really nice guy who said, he had removed the seat entirely and retightened every possible bolt before putting it back in the rail. He said he'd be more than happy to order me a new seat under warranty IF we could find clear evidence of a wobble in the seat.
I went for a drive with the tech and basically the wobble is so small to be almost imperceptible but kind of like this annoying little 'click' on the right side everytime I accelerate.
Anyway the tech couldn't find anything wrong with the seat or rail and I didn't have time to test out a new Cayman to compare.
I'm going to try adjust the seat up just a little from the rock bottom position I have it in at the moment. I also moved it forward from its normal point which seems to help a wee bit.
Argh, honestly, if the car wasn't leased I'd get someone to weld the seat in permanently.

Re: Loose Seat - Am I Being too Precious?
Must be fairly common. Driver's seat in my Mercury Mountaineer is a little loose too. Took it back to the dealer twice and they said that's as good as it gets.
Can't say I notice any wobble in my Cayman seats though.

Re: Loose Seat - Am I Being too Precious?
FIXED!!!! I raised the seat just a tiny bit (about a half pull on the handle from rock bottom) and the click/knock is gone!
|
Update: Okay, I know I said it was fixed but it kind of pisses me off that I have to raise the seat to make the click/knock go away. I want my seat at the lowest position and I want it to function at the position. Proper seat position is pretty basic to the enjoyment of one's car. Anyway, I think I may go back to the dealer again and try and get a fix. Of course they'll say they can't feel anything is wrong.

Re: Loose Seat - Am I Being too Precious?
Had the same problem in a Corvette. Ended up putting a short 2x4 behind the seat and moving the seat all the way back hard against it. No more wobble. Mickey Mouse I know but it did work.

My 986 Boxster S had the exact same issue with the exact same fix.
Sorry I don't have better news for you than that, but that indicates it's a design issue rather than a defect per se.

Re: Loose Seat - Am I Being too Precious?
Fussy, perhaps.
Precious - definitely does not sound precious in any sense of the word.
It's hard to let go of an aggravation once you settle on it. I suspect that what you need are more track days. Probably would divert your mind to more immediate things.
