Got my rear bumper replaced, BUT..!

Around 6 months ago I got rear-ended by a cab and that had me replace the rear bumper with a new one painted and installed at my Porsche service center. So its Spring and time for a full detail to restore my cars shine, and after polishing the whole car and getting down to the rear bumper, I see black paint getting on the pad on my porter cable orbital! I couldn't have done anything wrong because I completed the whole car successfully, and because im only using a Dual Action Orbital which is highly unlikely to have gotten through the clearcoat (at the very first pass with finishing polish).

So could my Porsche Service Center have skipped adding clear coat to my bumper? Or could they have mixed it with the paint? Any ideas on what to do? Isn't it my right to get my bumper re-done?

Its Saturday and theyre closed for the weekend, but i'm very furious and disappointed

Re: Got my rear bumper replaced, BUT..!

It sounds like the clear coat was never even applied, which doesn't surprise me having dealt with bodyshops for a number of years. On Monday, call them and tell them you want to bring it in and have them finish the job by applying a clear coat over the black. Good luck!

Re: Got my rear bumper replaced, BUT..!

If they haven't applied the clearcoat, the paint will have to be stripped and the bumper re-primed and painted again... the clearcoat has to be applied while the underlying paint is still tacky, not dry - otherwise the clearcoat will peel off.
