help clearing computer warning

I drove my S to the store yesterday and I got a service warning on dash. I looked it up and checked my gas cap. It looked like that was the problem not all the way screwed in. But the engine service message is not going away. Will it take a while for it to clear out or do I have another problem. It realy makes no sence to have a problem the car is new with low miles. thank you for any help .

Re: help clearing computer warning

It may or may not clear by itself - depends what it is - can you be more specific? If it doesn't clear by itself, and you don't have a code reader or Durametrics software, you'll need to go into the dealer and have it cleared - most will take the car right in and read it out to see what's wrong - then clear them. Last time I did this, it took 20 minutes. And, something might be wrong - so it might be good to call and tell the service people what the warning is, and take it in.

Cars like this are complex pieces of mechanical and electronic machinery, designed and manufactured by humans. Humans are known to be fallible now and again, and sometimes things go wrong with such complex machines, no matter how expensive, how new, or how few miles are on it. It's probably not a big deal, but have it looked at.

Re: help clearing computer warning

If your gas cap truely was loose then it takes several starts/drives typically to clear. I don't think Porsche made this a latching message. Other than that, what beez said.

Re: help clearing computer warning

Thanks for the help. The cap was defenatly not all the way tight. So if it does take a few starts or drives to clear ,I wont worry about it and drive it and see if it clears. On the other hand if you guys had said it should clear out right away I would be more worried.I was hoping it was just going to take some time for computer to reset.Tha owners manual is not very informative on this stuff. My guess is they would prefer we spend the money at a local dealer . Thanks!

Re: help clearing computer warning

I've never had a dealer charge me anything for simply reading and clearing codes from the computer.
