The good news just keeeeeps on comin'......

I'll list my subjects and update results as I go:
Key not working...under warranty?: They re-flashed the little bugger, and now it's fine (no charge)...so I'm not out $500!
Surfaces wearing off light switch surround trim and blower fan switch: Wear items, they say...not covered under warranty, they say! I wish I knew which of you guys on here said you had yours replaced under warranty...I want YOUR dealer! And the blower fan switch can't be replaced on it's own....it's all one assembly with the motor, they say (skepticism in my brain at that point).
Replaced 4 PS2 tires: (had 1 bad sidewall for some reason) Put on M/S hi-performance Nokians I got with the car (did I mention I bought this '06 3 weeks ago?). They say 3 of the 4 rims are "bent"....but they said they balanced just fine, also drive just fine for now.
Hood emblem loose: It's fine now....fixed. Everything taken care of....they say.
Summary:
I'm disappointed in their handling of the worn surface items! I like the smoother ride of the present tires, but the handling is not as "crisp" as the PS2's. I will drive them for awhile and decide later whether or not to buy wheels & tires...would like 19", but with our s**t roads?...hhhmmm, VERY expensive pot-holes to hit! Need to decide if I want to trade back: my smoother ride for crisper handling....hhmmmmm.
At least I have 2 keys now.....that little trip cost me $171.00.
Thx for listening....

They are right, the heater assembly is all one piece, and single replacement buttons aren't available. You should try another dealer in your area to see if they'll replace the worn switches - it seems some will, some won't. I've seen where some will for the original purchaser of a car. The worst another dealer will say is "no" and they might say "yes."

Re: The good news just keeeeeps on comin'......

Beez is correct try a different dealer. My first Boxster I had a broken actuator. This was to deploy and retract the top. The Car was out of warranty. They replaced all the part for free and we split the labor. Plus I had a Porsche loner for almost a full week. That was 2 Porsches ago. If companies would follow one simple rule. “It is cheaper to keep a customer than to get a new one.”

Re: The good news just keeeeeps on comin'......

i have two switches the color is coming off the end of the temp switch and blower switch. i have 27k on the car, i am the second owner so i can pretty much guess what the dealer will say. any idea how this can be blended to make the switch all black again?? is it a paint a dye, anyone know?? i have had the car for nearly a year and the clutch feels very strange, dealer said it was me but it is noted on the service records.
thanks

Re: The good news just keeeeeps on comin'......

I have the material coming off of my blower switch as well. I'd love a replacement, but I'm sure the cost would be absurd. I'll ask next time if there is anything that can be done, but I'm not holding out hope.

Maybe bumperplugs can bring a solution to market for us ...

Re: The good news just keeeeeps on comin'......

Pushing for goodwill warranty on my AC panel switches now.

I understand from Porsche Middle East that there maybe a repair kit for the AC controls in the pipeline. The PCM knobs were released as a repair kit due to complaints so that is why the AC controls are being looked into as well.

Mine look like real cr@p at the moment for a car with only 20k miles on the clock!! It is the biggest downfall of the cayman/Boxster (and 911's I believe) IMO.

Re: The good news just keeeeeps on comin'......

Sounds like a disappointment I have to look forward to. Never been a concern on any other car I had. Cost control gone wrong I'd guess.

Is it the paint itself that is coming off or just the lettering?

Very much a +1 on that. Audi pushed to far so now I have a BMW for a DD after 4 Audi's.

The part that some companies don't get is losing a customer on something like this isn't just one customer to replace. It typically is multiple lost sales. When someone says this Hyundai, KIA etc is a POS the typical response is what did you expect. Say something similar about an Audi, BMW, Porsche etc and the response is more like stunned surprise and interest in the story.

Porsche stretched it a bit in the past but the cars are just to good to not live with a few eccentricities.

Re: The good news just keeeeeps on comin'......

Has anyone ever thought about putting clear nail polish or some kind of protection over the switches to eliminate the wear? I always try to push on the upper or lower part of the switch to avoid wearing on the "tab"

Re: The good news just keeeeeps on comin'......

I used a Sharpie where the black chipped away on the switches.

Re: The good news just keeeeeps on comin'......

guys,
thanks for the input. the "s" is a great car and the switch issue is cosmetic and minor. i am sure i can deal with this. the sharpie idea is a good one also. i will beg next visit to the dealer which i hope is not anytime soon.
