Underbody Panels Rattling?

I've got something rattling under the passenger footwell area of my car.

When I get up to highway speeds (over 100 km/h) the wind starts buffeting something under the car around the passenger footwell area on the outside underneath of the car.

I've taken it into the dealership and got the dreaded "Could not replicate problem" thing from them. They said nothing is damaged under there.

What do you guys thing it is? Or does it just need a more careful inspection?

Re: Underbody Panels Rattling?

If it happens again, and you know when and where it happens, have the tech drive with you. I did this with my bimmer, they couldn't replicate the problem, so I took the tech for a drive. He heard it and was able to ID the issue.

At least it doesn't sound like something is terrible wrong; more of an annoyance.

Let us know what it is.... when you find out.

Re: Underbody Panels Rattling?

I recently had the same problem. Unfortunately it was in a race and I thought I had a tire coming apart. Fortunately it was not a tire.

At some point I had sheared off a couple of the studs that fasten one of the many belly pans to the bottom of the car (on a gator?). When the wind caught it just right in a particular turn it would slap the ground and the bottom of the car causing quite a racket.

We replaced the studs and bought a new belly pan. Problem solved.

Cheers,

Re: Underbody Panels Rattling?

I have a light rattle on the passenger side too, somewhere. This is new. It sounds like a heat shield rattling. I don't remember exactly what I saw under the cladding on that side. Or it could be one of the door speakers. Hmmm...
