Question Really loud "screeching" as door window moves up/down

I have a 2003 Boxster which I adore ! Over the last couple of weeks the drivers door window is making a horrendous screeching noise as the window moves either up or down - any ideas how I resolve this ? Have tried lubricating the seals of the window with no luck Thanks

Re: Really loud "screeching" as door window moves up/down

Does it sound like it is just the window rubbing on something as it goes up and down, or a mechanical sound inside the door itself? What did you lubricate the seals with?

I would try spraying some silicon lubricant along the rubber squeegee linings, and then treat the window surfaces with something slick, like Rain-X ( or just the interior surface if the '03 Boxster has the permanent water repellent treatment on the exterior glass), and see if that helps.

I would check to see if you have metal to window contact on the inside or outside window seals. You may need a flash light so you can see down in the door some. I hope this helps.

This doesn't sound like something you can fix with forum advice. I'd call the dealership and take it in. The car is under warranty, right?

Gatorbite,
My guess is that a 2003 car is not in warranty, but it could have an extended warranty. No harm though anything in the door is fixable. In a worst case buy another door the same color and change the whole thing.

Re: Really loud "screeching" as door window moves up/down

Oops.... I'm moving too fast. I just assumed Cayman, and here in the US, most are still under warranty. Sorry about that.

The screaching could be the motor, or a window track. Spraying a little silicone lube in the tracks is the only thing you can really try. If that doesn't solve it, then the door needs to be opened.
