spoiler control failure.. anyone else?

Just picked up 08 CS Sport CPO. I get a spoiler control alarm when the spoiler is supposed to go back down. I did a search and found someone with a similar problem but his occured after putting on a aftermarket spoiler. Anyone else have this problem and know what was involved with the fix?

Re: spoiler control failure.. anyone else?

It might be a blown fuse - there's a fuse diagram in the files section for download, if you need one. It also might be the car's computer was set-up to have the aerokit, where they disable the wing - but then there wouldn't be an alarm, methinks... it's more than likely an easy warranty fix.

Re: spoiler control failure.. anyone else?

Great looking car! Any more photos?

At DE events, we're told to manually keep the spoiler up since the numerous speed changes on the straights vs. turns can cause problems with the spoiler motor.

Since your the motor still seems to work, hopefully it'll be a simple sensor issue.

Good luck!

Oh, and welcome to the site!

Have you had someone check to determine if the spoiler is actually going down and you are just getting a bad message?

Pete is right we need to see more pictures of the green Cayman (natural colors?). Looks like an aftermarket exhaust as well so there may have been other mods that caused this, like a wing.

Re: spoiler control failure.. anyone else?

Why are you even bothering trying to diagnose? It's an 08, it's still under warranty. Get down to your OPC, bark at them for selling you a broken car, and demand it fixed.

Also be aware, when stationary you must press and hold the button to extend it. This is intentional for when they calibrate the spoiler's max-height point, it gives the mechanic analog control, rather than on/off functionality. I assumed you knew that, however, because it's in the manual.

Re: spoiler control failure.. anyone else?

Yes, I have an '08 RS 60 #1646 with 3900 miles. It has been back to the dealer three times with no fix. If I go into a right turn at various speeds, 20 mph up to 65 mph, I get a failure code. I just did a DE at Watkins Glen and the spoiler went crazy, then finally remained up. The car sat in my garage for a week and when I took it to the dealer the spoiler began functioning as normal. However the code still comes on when going into a right turn. The dealer continues to say nothing is wrong. I have changed fuses and checked the connections myself. The onkly explanation they gave the second time was a dirty contact.
