Exclamation possible 997/987 ECU recall...

I found out from a good source that there is a defect on several ECUs 997/987 many vehicles are effected. Apparently Porsche of America can't figure it out and one of Largest Porsche Dealers in the USA, from what I've heard has had many with this problem. I thought #1 was Champion followed by Jim Ellis.
You will not get a CEL but a fault code P126 rich biast limit stuck which will not clear. There is no protocol/ procedures to repair it, PTECH (porsche technical support) has no solution yet.
scan your cars to see if you have this code then contact your dealer. It seems they might have to do a software upgrade or replace the ECU.

Re: possible 997/987 ECU recall...

Is there any way to tell prior to the CEL lighting up whether my car is one that qualifies for the fix? Is it VIN# related?

You wont get a CEL, you have to take it to the dealer and ask them to scan it for faults.

Re: possible 997/987 ECU recall...

Add to that other random software issues:

1. Engine wont start for no reason for 10 mins.
2. Engine does some strange surging in first gear.
3. RPM hunting at (idle +100)RPM
4. ABS error and failure and part lockup of brakes. (self cleared after 1 hour)
5. Fuel Gage crashed and reading out by more than half a tank and stuck at empty.
6. Radio and audio system locks up. (reset by fuse removal).
7. Lights turn on/off inconsistently sometimes.
8. Oil level reading varies with temp and is inconsistant sometimes.

Err, and this was with stock ECU software.

Hello Porsche, anybody home?

I like a good scare like anyone else but has anyone experienced this and, what does it mean to those of us that have flashed our cars with Softronic, Revo, etc.?

Re: possible 997/987 ECU recall...

If it's a software upgrade, Scott will more than likely have the latest and greatest which would mean problem solved. If it's an ECU replacement, I'd flash back to the original map, have the dealership replace the ECU and, assuming Scott has the latest software, flash the new ECU with Scott's upgrade.

I personally have not experienced any of the things mentioned in this thread but even if I did, I would not be too worried about it.

I think Autothority is one of the shops with a 997 that has this issue. Also a car at jack ingram porsche. I dont think flashed ecus would have this problem, but thats just a guess since usually flashed goes beyond the stock settings.
