Ozzyman.....I am worried about you if you need to ask people on this forum on tips on removing an engine!?
Good luck. A porsche mechanic will exploit the situation if he has to clean up the situation.

Re: about to remove engine any tips cayman
Ozzy,
While the physical removal isn't all that hard, there are differences between Tiptronic cars and Manual cars in terms of control units, ECU programming, etc. it is by no means a simple swap and if you don't do it right your car won't drive correctly and could be dangerous to drive. I would at least consult with a competent Porsche mechanic who has done such a swap before and get a list of what needs to be done and in what order to make sure you get it right, otherwise if you muck something up you are going to end up paying a lot more later for someone to come in and fix whatever problems you've created if in fact they can be fixed. I was going to comment about the suspensions being different between manual and auto cars but looks like you are going to swap that too, which would be the correct thing to do.
I wish you the best of luck but I really think you ought to get some help with this sort of thing.

Anyway, I think it is 18 bolts in total that holds everything in.

Re: about to remove engine any tips cayman
If you had 2 complete cars, albeit crashed, I do not see why it is not possible. You may need to buy parts if something is damaged and you can not move it. There may be a computer problem with the dash but again if all is swapped it should work in theory but then again lots of things work in theory. The legality of swapping a dash and computer in a different car is up in the air though.
btw. I worked in a salvage yard in college, I saw the shadiest stuff on earth done. Granted it was all disclosed but people took the discount and drove off the lot.

Re: about to remove engine any tips cayman
I would think the wiring harness would be the worst part. Even if you could swap out the ECU, interior parts, etc ... It would be very hard to remove one harness to put in the other car. There was a picture in this forum of the size of the harness when it was removed from the car. It would be no simple task.

Some photos with updates are in order here. Good luck with this one. Just out of curiosity how did you happen to purchase a Cayman in the US and have it shipped without it's motor?
