Re-instal Engine Air Filter

I have read all the articles and posts having to do with changing the engine air filter. I have the replacement filter in the box but can't get it onto or into the air distribution inlet at the rear of the box. Does the collar on the filter fit over or into the inlet? Any tips on getting the filter fixed in the box? Thank you!

Top tip is warm the end up on the filter with a hairdryer first to make the plastic supple. Also, a little silicon spray helps too.

Re: Re-instal Engine Air Filter

Great, I'll try both. Based on your response i take it that the collar on the air filter fits over the air distribution inlet, correct? Thank you.

Re: Re-instal Engine Air Filter

I like Nick's suggestions and I'll use them next time I change the air filter.

I also had a lot of trouble getting the new filter to pop into the holder. Part of the problem is lining up the filter and the oval opening in the holder. I solved the problem by having my wife, Gina, sit in the driver's seat and look at the air filter through the roll over hoop. She then advised me when the filter and oval opening in the holder were lined up. I could not see this from outside the car holding the filter. Once they were lined up it snapped in easily.
