Is it possible to fix a wire that connected at both ends?

Long story short, rats stripped some wires in my engine bay and I'm trying to figure out if its possible to apply some type of insulated sleeve on a wire thats connected at both end?

Any help would be appreciate.\

Thks

Well, electrical tape is ugly, but it would work.

There is also heat shrink tubing that you could split, wrap around the wire, and then heat.

There is also self sealing silicone tape. It sticks to itself real good. Shouldn't get gooey and loose like electrical tape does when heated. I believe there is a heat shrink version of this tape which might be the most aesthetic out of all the options. It will still look like a scab though. If appearance is an option covering in a plastic braid would help.

You might find something at the local Radio Shack. If not Parts Express or Markertek carries a wider stock of electrical items. They might have some ideas too.

Brush-on electrical tape may be the only other alternative.

Don't be afraid of electrical tape. If you use a good quality tape, like 3M Super 33+, you can repair a chewed wire neatly and permanently. If you want something thicker, I'd recommend 3M Super 88.

In my opinion, Super 33 is easier to work with. Just stretch it good as you apply it and you'll have a nicely insulated wire.

Re: Is it possible to fix a wire that connected at both ends?

A friend of mine just had her Toureg repaired for rodent damage to the car's main harness for a cost of $12,000 (all paid by her insurance). You might want to call your insurance guy to see if they will cover the repairs. My friend's insurance company (State Farm) did not hassle her at all when presented with the original $8000.00 estimate which grew quickly to $12K.

Good Luck...

Sorry to hear about the rats munching on your lizard. Bummer....

Get a good cover and visit the local SPCA for a watch cat......

A cover doesn't stop them from climbing up the wheels into the engine I'm afraid

Are all these solutions good in the heat of the engine bay?
