what is it?

Can someone tell me what is in the black plastic sealed box under
the front hood, below where the CD Changer would go?

Thanks!

Re: what is it?

It is tire sealant for a flat tire since there is no spare. If you do a quick search, you will find several threads referring to it.

Re: what is it?

I don't think that it's. The tire sealant is way below the CD changer in a different compartment. There is a sealed black plastic box in with my CD changer but I don't know what it does.

Re: what is it?

O sorry. Now I know what is being referred too.

Yea, I don't know what that is either.

Edit: http://www.planetporsche.net/reviews...oduct=99&cat=5

Ken mentions that it is a charcoal canister in this article, assuming that is the same thing the OP is talking about.

I found online that charcoal canisters are used to trap the fuel vapors from the gas tank until the engine is started and then the vacuum of the engine pulls the vapors into the engine.

Re: what is it?

That is the carbon canister. It's part of the emission control system that absorbs fuel vapors to prevent them from being vented to the atmosphere. I'm not sure if these are on all cars, or US only. Here's the page from the parts catalog that shows it.

Can I assume the ticking will stop with a loud noise at the end of the warranty period?

Re: what is it?

I was wondering what that was myself. I noticed it a month or so ago but forgot to ask about it. I don't think I've ever noticed it ticking though.
