I am still on the road, and processing some of my over 600 photos from RRV each night. I will create a number of pages and galleries on my website from RRV, but not any time soon. I realize that to be a news site, P9 must produce articles in a timely manner. Unfortunately I won't be able to produce anything in a timely manner.
RRV was billed as the largest gathering of Porsche race cars and race drivers in history, and there's not doubt it realized that claim. The literature on site said there were 1400 spectator Porsches, but when you add all the spectator cars, the show cars, the vendor cars, and the racer's cars as well as the race cars, I would estimate at least 2000 Porsches. Some examples:
+ the first Singer Targa was in the paddock with the owner willing to talk to anyone showing interest and asking questions.
+ there was a grey Singer coupe that was amazing, just sitting in the Weathertech tent in the paddock.
+ I counted over a dozen 918s on site
+ there were four RWB cars on display
+ there were more four cam engines than you can count, in cars, running and racing
+ some of the race classes had nearly 50 cars on track(!)
+ the Cayman and Boxster corral was very large, and populated by double digit numbers of GT4s. There were a lot of GT4s there
+ the 991.2 turbo 911s look cool, and sound OK
+ the 991 911 RSR that won at COTA is unbelievably loud, while the 919 that won Le Mans is surprisingly loud for a 2 litre 4 cylinder car.
+ the 60 in 60 display of historic Porsche models was very impressive and included a number of very special cars
+ the theme of RRV was Porsche at Le Mans, and that was very evident. They had the first winner (1970 917) and the latest winner (2015 919).
+ DMG MORI technicians didn't want people photographing the 919 engine, and ensured that by standing in front of it every time they started and warmed up the car (the body work was off the engine.)
+ RRV was obviously being used by Porsche to film commercials and other promotional materials, hence the weird Panamera camera car.
+ probably the most powerful car there was the Sunoco 917-30 spyder with over 1000 hp. It was running on track, but probably never above 7/10s.
+ 356 race cars are really noisy!
+ GT3 Cup cars are surprisingly not noisy, although they produce an amazing sound, and the sequential shifters make great sounds
+ the event was very well organized, and Saturday was the most populated day. It was very busy. Friday was full of excitement and anticipation. Sunday was full of really exhausted people, and many had left for home
+ Porsche Design stuff is unbelievably expensive, but I saw lots of people wearing $60 t-shirts and $90 Polo shirts.
+ Canon has sold a boat load of white lenses...to people who drive and enjoy Porsches
+ lots of people ate Frog Dogs
+ the Michelin girls were very attractive, as are some of the Porsche team drivers so I'm told...
Well, I'll write it all up when I have time. BTW, Autoblog was there and reporting each day.
