Star Trek
Has anyone else seen the new Star Trek movie? I saw it last week with my wife and I really enjoyed it, best "Trek" movie in awhile and even though my wife is not a big Star Trek fan she liked it as well. If you haven't seen it, I'd suggest adding it to your viewing list.

Re: Star Trek
DONT RUIN IT FOR ME.....
I am really looking forward to seeing this one. I've been a bit of a treky for a while. Not one of those guys who wears the uniform, or can split my hand like Spock, just someone who really enjoys the science fiction, stories and adventures.

Re: Star Trek
I haven't seen it yet either, was on call last weekend and Murphy's law demands that I'll get paged in the middle of the movie! Seems as though it's a total reboot of the franchise which I think will be very good. I'm certain that with the financial success of this film there will be a new one not far behind. Not a uniform wearer, but this month is the 40th anniversary of the original series last season. This gal (who envies Kirk, natch) puts her consciousness into Kirk, and Kirk is in her body, and..........

Re: Star Trek
I, like every real engineer, am required by law to watch all things StarTrek. Personally I've been wishing for a prequel featuring a young and rough version of the original characters for years. The movie was easily better than all the Trek movie trash we've been subjected to since Khan. It was great! The plot was good and also provides a basis to rewrite every character's arc going forward...

Re: Star Trek
My daughter e-mailed last night and said she's taking me to see Star Trek tonight. I guess I raised her right! (She changes her own oil too)

Re: Star Trek
Just saw it yesterday and I enjoyed it a lot. JJ Abrams did a great job and I look forward to more films in the years to come.

Re: Star Trek
I wonder if they will take some of the old TV episodes and adapt them into movies for this cast? I did find one continuity flaw, if anyone wants me to point it out so you can check it for yourself when you watch let me know and I'll tell it here. It is nothing major, actually something very minor, but amusing nonetheless.

I'm really happy with how it turned out. JJ did a great job.

Re: Star Trek
Great movie and the multiculturalism in the movie, and especially in the original series, shows the vision Gene R. had back in the day. Ahura, holy smokes!

Re: Star Trek
I've been a "Trekky" ever since it started on TV back around 1966. I can still remember reading in TV Guide as a wee child of 10 about this new TV series about space travel coming soon, and I was really excited having been a Sci-Fi nut all my life. That was also around the same time I became a "Porschey" nut. Loved 'em both for a long time. I'll definitely see it. I'm wondering though, how easy is it to accept someone else in the role of captain Kirk?
Wasn't the Enterprise shuttle designed by Porsche?
P.S. When the original TV series began, our house number was "1701", the same number on the Starship Enterprise. Dang, I thought that was so cool.

A real "trekky" would have spelled it "trekkie". I know, I know Get A Life.
Was this one equal to Wrath of Khan?

Re: Star Trek
It needs to be on anyone's summer movie list, whether trekker/trekkie or not.
I'm not an Abrams fan (i get lost in Lost but still watch it.) but he and the cast did a great job. It is one of the best Trek movies. The cast impressed me the most though. They all hit homeruns and Kirk seems to be in very good hands with Chris Pine. I'd like to see Alfonso Cuarón direct a follow up. ... ok i'll stop geeking out now.

I'm sorry but if you worked on this film and didn't get all of us fans some goodies and trinkets then you are going to have to be flogged...

The characters are not as strong/ well developed.
Nero is paper thin next to Khan, Pine is OK as Kirk but doesn't have near the presence that Shatner did. They do a decent job and spend alot of time developing Spock, but McCoy is on the screen 10 seconds and is already more fun to watch.
Answer: no, but it's better than every other ST pic by a wide margin.
I think they need Pine to step it up a couple of notches and inject more personality into his role and they could match the original triplets for chemistry.

And a "real trekkie" would know the cognoscenti call themselves trekkers.

(I need a life too)
In the 1991 TV show Star Trek: 25th Anniversary Special, Leonard Nimoy attempts to settle the issue by stating that the term 'Trekker' is the correct one.
In the documentary Trekkies, Kate Mulgrew stated that Trekkers are the ones "walking with us" while the Trekkies are the ones content to simply sit and watch Star Trek.

You're probably too young to know this, but back in the late 60's us fans had a disagreement concerning the spelling of the word for us fans, "Trekky" vs. ""Trekkie". My side obviously lost.....

Re: Star Trek
Here's a certified geek observation: in the new movie they talk about the Enterprise as the biggest and best in the fleet- but the Enterprise is just the second of its class of heavy cruiser (The Constitution was the first).

Well if it were bigger/better/improved over the Constitution wouldn't it be the best in the fleet currently (but of course likely surpassed by the next ship off the line?) I thought the Enterprise was built at the Utopia Planetia ship yards in space not on Earth? Oh wait, different timeline...
So does anyone want to know that continuity error I spotted???
