Fearless Leader
Well, I'm sure we have all witnessed steely eyed K-Man S fearlessly flinging his red hot yellow CS into a turn with enough heat to singe a mere mortal's socks or standing on the brakes so hard that the car does a stoppie while he looks calmly for that exact turn-in point measured and judged to the millimeter. Or when he launches his car over a crest and holds it on the track only by the weight of his will. We've seen him simply dismiss fear when it is time to be the first incorporator of a complex mod. Yes, fearless. Laugh in the face of danger that that makes Batman cower.
But what happens when the steely-eyed, track hardened Porsche driver gets into a military helicopter??????
Yes. We even sent Garfield with him as a potential calming agent. Lool at Garfield's eyes. Is that a "For goodness sake, man, pull yourself together" look? Is it absolute dismay? Try as we might, we couldn't get his heart rate below 200, so we decided that we should probably not start the engines, much less lift off, so we gave Ken permission to egress the aircraft, and exit he did.
With his feet firmly connected to Terra Firma, Ken returned to his normal steely eyed, devil-may-care, strutting race car driver demeanor. We put on our sunglasses and neuralized everyone there. I'm happy to say that there were no lingering effects to anyone. No one could remember if a Neuralizer works on a cat, and Garfield was wearing that "Nothing Happened" look that a cat wears just after it has done something uncoordinated or stupid. Hmmm. Maybe that explains the look on Ken's face.

Re: Fearless Leader
Somehow the picture of me at the controls is missing from this collection, controls I would have gladly operated had the weather and government cooperated.

Re: Fearless Leader
This is exactly what Ken looks like while piloting his aforementioned red-hot yellow car going backwards down the back straight at Heartland Park Topeka... I know, because I was in the passenger seat...

Hey now, I thought you asked me to show you the "Art of the Spin" when you actually said "The part where you turn-in". Besides how many times have you successfully driven backwards on the track??

Hahahahahahahaha! I guess it's hard to hear through those damn helmets they makes us wear.
Come to think of it, this is also the look that was on the faces of the other run-group participants has they come down the back straight heading directly towards us...

He started freaking out when he asked about the camber and toe-in and we told him "we don't care, we never measure it" . He got a little glassy eyed when he asked if we had ever dynoed it and we said "yes, peaked at about 15,000 BHP" . Then his mouth fell open when he asked what kind of boost we got out of the turbos and we answered "about 160 psi". He started looking worried when we talked about doing some 2.5 g level turns but make sure you keep the rotor tips at least 10 feet off the ground . I think what sent him over the edge was when we told him that, in flight, the brake pedals do absolutely nothing .

I don' t see any pictures. And your gallery link just takes me to the gallery top page.
The article picture links to: http://www.planetporsche.net/gallery...-04-20-300.jpg which gives a "page not found" (though no 404).
Weird...

Re: Fearless Leader
Maybe the government/military classified the pictures?

Re: Fearless Leader
That's probably my bad and lack of understanding. I put them in the original post as image only then took them out of my gallery. I put them back so try again.

You didn't think we would let him OUTSIDE with a helicopter, do you????????? Yep, inside. Raining like crazy outside and this was really an orientation for a group of University aero engineering students. Letting students get their hands on real hardware and talk about real-life design trade-offs.

Re: Fearless Leader
And if you believe the hydrodynamacists, you get more lift in the rain. Trust me, being in instrument meterological conditions in a hover is deadly no matter how much experience you have.

Yes, but you are forgetting about inate ability for dwarves to know whether a passage is sloping up or down and how far above or below ground they are.
