Planet 9 Porsche Sales Report - Feb 2010 |
Mar 03, 2010 - 3:34 AM - by K-Man S
|
Porsche 911 Sales Plummet! Panamera Propping up Porsche. After penning a response in our long running topic about Porsche sales numbers for a given month I thought I'd turn that response into a news item since surely the information in that response and the sources quoted is worthy of some discussion among our members. If our members would like to see more of these reports we will certainly consider delivering more of them in the future. Our goal is to deliver the unvarnished truth and as they say, tell it like it is. When things are good, we'll tell you, when things are bad, we'll still tell you, in fact when things are bad we may have some recommendations that do you some good. So with that said, read on and reply away!
January 2010 vs. February 2010 Porsche Sales:
Boxster and Cayman went up from 159 to 184, of course with this new reporting system we have no idea how many of each model were actually sold. Anyway about a 16% gain in Feb vs.... [Read More]

Porsche 918 Spyder plug-in hybrid concept gets 78 mpg, hits 62 mph in 3.2 seconds |
Mar 01, 2010 - 8:10 PM - by RSS_feed_bot
|
Here you go, have your cake and eat it too. Porsche is looking to prove that the best of both worlds don't have to be mutually exclusive with the 918 Spyder concept scheduled to debut tomorrow at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Looking a bit like a Carrera GT evolved, the 918 Spyder is powered by both a 500-horsepower V8 and a pair of electric motors (one for each axle) producing an additional 218 hp or 160kW. At full gallop, the concept can theoretically reach 62 mph in 3.2 seconds and nip 198 mph on the high end. On the flip side, Porsche says it can also achieve 78 miles per gallon and emit just 70 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
How does a supercar have such range? Well, the 918 Spyder concept is a parallel hybrid just like your mom's Prius (well not just like). That means the two powertrains, gas and electric, can operate together or separately to motivate the wheels into motion. There are no less than four modes that configure the powertrains for anything from maximum efficiency... [Read More]

New Cayenne Debuts in Geneva |
Feb 25, 2010 - 1:57 PM - by K-Man S

Even More Efficient, More Sporting and for the First Time with Hybrid Drive
Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is presenting the brand-new generation of the Cayenne Sports Utility at the Geneva Motor Show in early March.
The absolute highlight of this new generation is the world debut of the Cayenne S Hybrid with its technically highly sophisticated parallel full hybrid drive and fuel consumption in the New European Driving Cycle of just 8.2 litres/100 kilometres (equal to 34.4 mpg imp), which means
CO2 emissions of just 193 g/km. The Cayenne S Hybrid therefore combines the performance of an eight-cylinder with the economy of a six-cylinder running on much less fuel.
.Led by the Cayenne S Hybrid, all models in the new generation are trendsetters in efficiency and performance in their respective segments. Compared with the former models, fuel consumption is down by up to
23 per cent, since the... [Read More]

GT3 R Hybrid "Mid Engine" Race Car Unveiled |
|
Feb 11, 2010 - 7:31 AM - by K-Man S
|
Porsche set to preview a new 911 GT3 R Hybrid race car in Geneva - Following on the announcement a few days ago of the 911 Turbo S, Porsche shocked many journalists and automotive sites with the unveiling of an all new 911 GT3 R Hybrid race car. Our sources at Porsche tell us that the balance of the car is now much more "mid engine like" than a traditional 911 and the mid-mounted flywheel (used instead of a battery and placed where a passenger seat would be) can spin up to 40,000 rpm adding additional gyroscopic benefits. In the hands of Porsche factory race drivers the car achieved better handling results, despite its weight penalty vs. the standard GT3. Another remarkable feature of the car is the "instant boost" capability. In those notoriously furious and fast movies boost was always supplied by Nitrous, in the new GT3 Hybrid the boost is supplied by two electric motors (60kw each) that propel the front wheels giving the car 4 wheel drive capabilities and an additional 160hp for approximately 6-8 seconds at a push of a button on the steering wheel. Need to overtake that Ferrari? Just push the button! (No word from Porsche if there is a limit to how often the button can be pushed or what the typical recharge time is on the flywheel). ...
