Ladies and Gentlemen Planet-9 has reached the decade mark! That's right, Planet-9 is now 10 years old! This includes our original site of CaymanClub.Net and a short stint as PlanetPorsche.net. 10 years seems like a long time but has also gone by in a flash. I recall the days of gathering up any information I could on a new secret 2 seater model coming from Porsche, often times referred to as the hardtop Boxster. Speaking of which I purchased a 2005 Boxster S to have fun with at the track during the summer of 2005 only to trade it in early at my local dealer and apply my trade-in on a yet to be announced car. That car, as we now all know, became the Cayman S, officially debuted at the Frankfurt Auto Show that fall. (Worth reading some old topics on the subject).
I took all that information I was gathering and put it on a file server in my basement and sent emails to a couple of Porsche friends about my repository. Pretty soon I noticed multiple people checking out what I had gathered so I decided to set up a forum for discussion of the materials and later the car and thus CaymanClub.Net was born in August 2005. We had no sponsors (our first wouldn't come until October) but we had a bunch of enthusiasts longing for more information, trying to figure out how to spec a car they wanted to order, and trying to fill their time while they waited for their dream. Sound familiar? That process has repeated many times over the years on Planet-9.com. Within a year new owners had their cars and we had our first gathering in KC known as Croctoberfest, an event we repeated several times in subsequent years.
I want to thank all of those who have helped make Planet-9.com a success. My moderators - couldn't have managed this site without them, this includes past retired moderators as well. Our sponsors - they keep the lights on and provide us with opportunities we otherwise would never have. Our members - yes all of you! Without you and your interest and your passion this site would be a dust bowl, give yourselves a hearty pat on the back. In order to celebrate this success I contemplated another Croctoberfest event this fall, but in essence we've grown beyond the Cayman only beginnings to include Boxsters, 911s and to a lesser degree other Porsche models. Instead I've decided that we should sponsor/host/participate in multiple events throughout the next year, think of it as a year-long celebration of Planet-9's 10th anniversary. So get out your calendars and let's get started on celebrating 10 wonderful years!
Please reserve the dates of December 4th-6th (Friday-Sunday) 2015 for a special event that we will be announcing shortly.
I may also have an optional event for this October as well, but right now my focus is on a larger event in December. Stay Tuned to this topic, the newsletter and the forum in general for further announcements.
Party On!
