Post T-Design Memory Module Install in GT4

Ever get tired of pressing your Sport button and your PSE (Porsche Sports Exhaust) button every time you start your GT4 up and get ready to drive? I know I do. I would prefer that Porsche would give owners the ability to set their own defaults and not have those defaults changed. I know this is particularly troublesome for owners who have automatic start stop as an option and that Porsce has taken away the ability for owners to turn it off all the time if they don't want it on.

Well complain no more, T-Design has a nifty little module you can install that will allow you the owner to set your own defaults. Hence the term Memory Module. For me personally, that means whenever I drive my GT4 from now on it will automatically be in Sports mode with the PSE activated unless I decide otherwise. Score one for owner preferences! T-Design has put together a nice video (link to their site is below at the bottom of this article) that will run you through the basics of the installation process. Although it isn't hard per se, I thought I'd take pictures and show some close ups of the install that I performed to help other owners who want to install this product and take back their freedom of choice.

Here are the steps I took and installation photos:

Thanks Ken, for really great write up and pictures!

The only thing I can add is that the female connector will only go one way into the Memory Module, no matter how hard you try. The male connector on the other end has a tab that will not allow wrong orientation.

But the female connector from MM and into buttons box is more delicate - you have to make sure the red wire is on the L shaped side of the opening.

They fixed this with the 991.2 w/SC package. You can set individual mode which includes, PASM sport/normal, auto start/stop, PSE on/off, sport/sport+ and spoiler up/down etc. I think they are trying to put T-Design out of business or extort more money from us.

They fixed what? I did test 991.2. It doesn't even remember A/S/S anymore. And it def resets sport and sport+. So I'll be fine

Has anyone used this product to engage Sport+ instead of Sport?

Sport+ is in the testing phase, but it doesn't look promising at the moment.

They fixed nothing and made reset worse as any mode including I(Individual) resets to O (Normal) and Auto Start/Stop activated upon vehicle start up.-Richard

Yep. Porsche is really screwing customers more and more. I'm looking for a test car with steering wheel knob to try and decode the new logic for i/o/sport/sport+. We hope we can add remembering all modes to Memory Module. The owner will get a free module in case of success, of course. Car needs to be in West MI. By the way, summer is wonderful here, lake Michigan is 80F on MI shores now, and there is a fast and fun ferry between Wisconsin and Muskegon! Just saying.

See the memory module installation video on my website. It takes just a few seconds to unclip the silver trim piece.

If this were the case for all trims, I'd be happy, but unfortunately it isn't. The 981 brushed aluminum trim piece is cast and not plastic. The tabs are steel and screwed into the casting. They do not engage with the clips in the same way as the plastic tabs do. (In fact they are poorly designed for the clips, or the clips are poorly designed for the steel tabs.) Good luck removing the cast aluminum trim without damaging most or all of the clips. Fortunately I was able to reuse the clips, and the trim reinstalled as new, but your experience may differ. Good luck.

Ooops. I didn't know that. And I'm on this forum 4 years every day... May be removing side trim helps? Side trim unclips towrds doors and for the last clips you pull towards rear of the car.

Re: T-Design Memory Module Install in GT4

Since the trim piece on the 981 can be removed without removing the side pieces, removing the side pieces before removing the trim offers no additional advantage other than you can "see" the clips and inserted tabs. I have removed the side pieces twice. The first time I gave up trying to pry the brushed aluminum casting out, as I was making a real mess of the plastic with my 18" screwdriver (!) The second time I decided it just needed a bigger hammer and managed to remove the trim, but in the process damaging over 80% of the clips. As I said, I was able to reuse them even though they were damaged. (I actually modified them to allow for easier removal in the future, and I have tested it already and my modified clips work very well to hold the trim, and allow for easy removal.)

Yes, your module works very well, and is completely independent of the trim. It's just a bummer (for me) that the metal trim is actually metal...and requires considerable effort to remove.

I just came up with a new way to install without removing trim!

    1. Un-clip the left or right side trim, starting from the back of the car. The piece that touches the driver's/passenger's leg.
    2. There will be an opening under the buttons box, good to stick 4 medium-sized fingers through it.
    3. Push the buttons box up with your fingers! That's it!

The only problem is if one have fat fingers. Then help of wife or some child labor will be required
