Croctoberfest 2009 - Registration and Information
Destination Road America! - [Sept. 3rd-7th]Croctoberfest 2009 will be held in conjunction with the Chicago Region's T.R.A.C. event at Road America. This event annually features over 500 Porsches including many rare and vintage race cars.
Click Here to Register for Croctoberfest 2009
Croctoberfest 2009 and T.R.A.C consist of the following events:- Ferdinand Porsche Welcome Reception
- Planet Porsche Show-N-Shine
- Planet Porsche Exhaust Shoot-Out
- T.R.A.C. Drivers Education at Road America
- T.R.A.C. PCA Club Race at Road America
- Siebkens Resort Concours
- Siebkens Resort Banquet Dinner
- Old Road Course Rallye
We listened to feedback from last year's event and decided to make this year's event as ala carte as possible, which in turn should make the event less expensive. Most items can be paid for separately and many can be paid for at the actual event instead of in advance.
Croctoberfest 2009 is open to all Porsche models past and present. During the Registration process (click link above) you will be asked for your information, what vehicle(s) you are bringing, how many people in your party and which events you plan to attend. The only event you need to pay for in advance is the Thursday night Ferdinand Porsche Welcome Party (He would have been 134 that day!) which you can do at the end of Registration via credit card, check or PayPal. We've really tried to simply the registration process.
The rest of the items will need to be paid directly to the Chicago Region of PCA either in advance or at the event. Some items do not yet have published prices, but we will publish updates here as we receive them from the Chicago Region. Items such as the DE or Club Race will require additional forms for participants which are available at the Chicago Region PCA website at: http://www.pca-chicago.org/
Here are some details that I currently have about each event:
Ferdinand Porsche Welcome Party - Thursday Night Sept 3rd. Planet Porsche will supply the food and location (we are down to 2 candidates and will announce the final location shortly) and a cash bar. This is an excellent opportunity for travelers to unwind and get to know each other before the action begins.
Show-N-Shine & Exhaust Shoot-Out - Friday is an open day at Road America for those prepping for the Drivers Education and Club Race events and a good chance for spectators to see some Porsche race cars being tested on the track. At the same time we'll be hosting a show-n-shine in the morning followed by an exhaust shoot-out in the afternoon.
Saturday consists of more Drivers Education, more Club Race activities and the T.R.A.C. Concours and Banquet Dinner at Siebkens Resort. Here is what I have on the Concours:

I have been told that the banquet dinner that evening is generally between $40 and $50 per person but that final pricing is not yet available but again to call the Chicago Region contacts to register and get final numbers.
Sunday begins with the Old Road Course Rallye, here is what I have on that event:
Sunday September 6
Elkhart Lake Wisconsin
The historic roads are still there, where Allard's, Ferrari's, Jaguar's and MG's from Europe dueled with American made Cunningham's for racing supremacy.
Drive a few laps (at a much more relaxed speed) over the same roads that racing legends Phil Hill and Briggs Cunningham turned in anger on Sunday September 6, the morning after the Concours and Street Party in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin.
Now marked with National Historic Registry signige, this simple, not for points
Time, Speed, Distance Rallye covers the 1950, and the 1951-1952 circuits made famous in the best seller, "The Last Open Road."
So get up a little early. Drive your Porsche on some legendary roads that inspired corners on the current Road America circuit. Learn a little history. And, support a great charity. All before lunch.
Pre Registration is not necessary, but greatly appreciated.
James Jacisin
jamesjacisin@mac.com
9:00 am: Registration opens outside the Siebken's Ice Cream Gazebo
10:00 am: Drivers meeting
10:30 am: First car off
1:00 pm: Awards in the historic Siebkens Saloon.
Cost: A minimum of a $20.00 donation to our charity, JDRF is suggested.
Monday concludes with the last of the Drivers Education and PCA Club Racing events.
For those unfamiliar with Road America, here is a map of the site:

Members are of course free to come in caravans and groups, might be best to advertise that you are going, when you are going, etc. by starting a new caravan topic thread.

Sure, which forum would you like me to start the thread in?
Also, I just saw the exhaust shoot out! I'm pumped as I have been waiting and waiting to get a system, and now Ill get to hear which one I like best and finally pull the trigger!
By Croc-fest...I think it will be my 3rd time to RA this year which is always fine with me because I can't get enough of the American Club.

Re: Croctoberfest 2009 - Registration and Information
You might start with one of the geographic region forums as others in your area are likely to see it there. Post a link to it in this topic though to help others find it as well.

Re: Croctoberfest 2009 - Registration and Information
Do you have to have prior experience at Road America to go on track with this event. I know the Chicago region usually requires individuals to be signed off with at least one event at Road America before doing the Labor Day event.

Thats a good question and something I want to find out as well. I haven't done a PCA event there, but I'm hoping (and assuming) they count SCCA stuff because I have a national license (and used to have a pro license).

I don't know the answer to that you'll have to check with the Chicago Region officers to find out but please post their answer here. I would hope that anyone who has DE's at other tracks under their belt, and/or SCCA experience would qualify but it is up to each region to come up with their own additional restrictions if they want to.

Re: Croctoberfest 2009 - Registration and Information
To all the Cayman Club members that aren't sure about coming to Wisconsin, I know you will love it. Elkhart Lake is a beautiful small town with a very rich racing history. It is one of the highlights of WI for it's great driving roads . AND, the mosquitos should have all moved!

Re: Croctoberfest 2009 - Registration and Information
I have to ask - Where are all the registrations?
I was told to hold off on registration this year until it got a bit later, that starting in April was too early. Last year we had nearly 80 people registered for the event, thus far this year I think we have 5??? Please tell me people are waiting until the last minute to register??
We have to have 40 people for the Thursday night party just to break even on the food!
Sorry, I'll try not to stress...

Re: Croctoberfest 2009 - Registration and Information
Just got registered and book my hotel rooms at the American Club - can't wait!
I can't seem to find much info on the DE thru the Chicago region website though...do you have a link?

Re: Croctoberfest 2009 - Registration and Information
Go to:
ClubRegistration.net
for registration information. If you don't have an account with clubregistration, you'll have to set one up. It's free and pretty easy. Select PCA and Chicago Region to locate the event info. The next issue, July, of the Chicago Scene (monthly magazine) will probably have more information. It will be available on the Chicago PCA website soon.
Porsche Club of America - Chicago Region
You can also get a good idea of what goes on by looking at past issues for information on previous Labor Day events.
I'm not positive, but I think you have to have previous experience at Road America to participate in the DE.

I'll be there, of course, if only because I live so close. Waiting for clearance from the wife to register for as much as I can.

Umm wouldn't that eventually result in no one participating as everyone who has existing experience dies off? I mean how is someone supposed to get experience in the first place? I can understand placing anyone without experience in a beginner group until they can prove themselves, but to not allow them to run at all would seem contrary to the spirit of PCA. We had better check into this and see what the requirements are and as you pointed out the Chicago region is very late in getting items about this event up onto their website.

Re: Croctoberfest 2009 - Registration and Information
Chicago runs a large DE event over Memorial Day with about 50 novice drivers paired with experienced instructors. Over the Labor Day event there are no instructors so there is no one to "check you out".

Re: Croctoberfest 2009 - Registration and Information
I have never done a Chicago region event, but have been racing karts and cars for 15 years, and have raced at RA many times. I can't imagine they will not allow me to do the DE, as I have also instructed in my region.
