Hi Ben,

Thanks for the kind words. To answer your question... the tooling and machining costs are quite high for the components of the Protective Cover, and the current price of $275 is really the best I can do.

Thanks,

Re: Take Cover!

I have been busy for the holidays and have not put the engine cover on. In preparation, I asked the Porsche Dealer in town, San Antonio, if they could detail my engine. They referred me to a guy that they use in town. When I called him, he was very familiar with P-cars ("why do you want to detail it? You can't see it") but when I explained the engine cover product - he was immediately enthused. He said,"I could paint some of the components for you....what about some led lighting". I had planned to do this myself, but since I am an accountant and he deals with high end cars all day, I think this is a better solution.

I dropped it off yesterday, and he had 3 porsches in his shop (one 07 tt), which makes me all the more comfortable. Still working on the details - but if you are around San Antonio and not wanting to do this project yourself - I will be more than happy to let you see the result/this guys work when done.

I expect to pick it up Monday or Tuesday - and will drive it with and without the protective cover. I will pst again to let you know my impressions.

Re: Take Cover!

That's great! I can't wait to see the results. I wish I knew of somebody in the MD/DC/VA area that has the same experience and enthusiasm.

Be sure to post pics. Just curious though, how much does something like that run? If you can't post, please PM me.

I haven't heard anything about the protective cover which is surprising but the clear cover is one of my favorite mods.

Thanks!

Re: Take Cover!

I purchased the cover for the cover for daily protection and some possible noise reduction when traveling with the wife...it does not change the sound much at all so I'll generally keep it in the boot and use it when I need to carry something.

Re: Take Cover!

Unfortunately, noise reduction (for the wife and long triips) would have been one of my main reasons for getting the protective cover. If I hauled larger items I'd consider it as well but luckily we have the wife's car for that.

Thanks for the feedback Veloyellow and I like what you did with your clear cover.

Interested in knowing how this turns out. I've got the clear cover and the painted manifold. Now I'm considering the protective cover and LED lighting. Thanks.

Re: Take Cover!

Went to see car today - LED install went great, they mounted the switch on the small removable piece under the e-brake - looks factory. In fact, if you ever remove the clear cover and put the carpet back in - new owner will always wonder about the little switch with the blue light.....

They are still doing the painting - hope to get it tomorrow, but if the weather continues to be bad I will wait....picks to come....

Re: Take Cover!

Ok - finally got car back - wow - what a big visual difference this mod makes! I am very happy with the quality of the product and the work that the detail shop here in town did related to the install. There is a thread posted on Rennlist by the installer that I will try to link to - I will also try to put a thread up on this site to show the install features. Biggest ones for me is the location of the LED strips, the switch (installed unter ebrake) for the LED power (allowing for turning this on at shows, etc, while car is off) and the great job with detailing/paint work.

As for the noise.....I will say that I was pretty worried about this. I have always found the Cayman S as pretty quiet (even would say it sometimes sounded electric, compared to my 96 C4S with aftermarket techart exahaust). At idle, the difference is harly noticable to me (37 yo, ok hearing). When driving, it is more noticable, and sounds like a little more road noise/wind noise - this is the best way to describe it. However, it is not road noise - when crusing at speed, the sound is much less or almost gone, it is when accelerating and going through the gears that it is noticable.

I have installed the cover and driven it, I would say that the sound is very similar, with little reduction. My estimation is that if you have times when the engine will be dirty and you want it covered for that reason, or if you will transport golf clubs, etc, then the cover is a great deal.

The sound is a little consequence for me, if you turn the radio on even slightly, this is not an issue. I don't find myself having conversations in my car - and I love the look of the engine being visible - to me, this is the reason to make the modification.

Ok - here is my attemp at linking to the rennlist post, see if it works

Re: Take Cover!

Could you post some photos of the views at various angles from the outside when the hatch is closed?
