Take Cover!
HIP Design announces new Protective Cover for its popular clear engine cover! The HIP Design Protective Cover is designed to restore the utility of the stock Porsche cargo-net and integrate the styling of the OEM hardware, while protecting the clear engine cover underneath. The kit includes:
1) Custom-designed, NC-machined black Delrin cargo-net attachment fittings that simply press onto the heads of the two transparent engine cover fasteners.
2) A protective pad that provides excellent scratch protection for the transparent cover. It is a precision die-cut 3/8" thick composite of soft, closed-cell foam bonded to a thick durable black vinyl top surface.
3) Low-profile, aft tie-down straps that are adjustable for various cargo requirements, and designed to utilize the D-rings of the lower trunk while remaining compatible with aft trunk-liners.
Unlike the factory carpet panel, the HIP protective panel material does not stain and is easily wiped clean. The cover and hardware can be installed/removed in minutes without disrupting the transparent engine cover. The entire kit is easily stored, rolled-up in the trunk. The price is $275 and is available from the HIP Design website. HOLMER INDUSTRIAL PRODUCT (HIP) DESIGN LLC

Re: Take Cover!
I am a huge fan of your clear engine cover. Once I get my engine bay cleaned up and sorted out I will order one.
But the irony of this must be noted...LOL.
(Looks like a cool way to have your cake and eat it too.)

Re: Take Cover!
Hi Alfredo,
Yes, the Protective Cover material is designed specifically for noise-dampening and heat-block, but I have intentionally not included noise-reduction as a "feature" of the cover, because of the difficulty in quantifying the actual reduction in noise and describing the resultant "sound". My ears tell me the actual "road noise" (tires on pavement) is dampened with this cover, but I think it best to consider any reduction in noise an added benefit to the features that are being advertised.
Also, the HIP website is now updated with INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS, GALLERY and FEATURES for the Protective Cover. The store-front should be ready to accept orders this evening.
Thanks,
Joel

Re: Take Cover!
I'm with you Dave. So you spend a lot of money to get the clear cover. Then you buy a cover to cover the clear cover, WTF?

Re: Take Cover!
I could see using one when you are travelling long distances and need to use the space for storage or something and do not want to scratch the cover.

What's that phrase about if you don't have anything nice to say?
I think it makes sense to use a cover on a "temporary" basis, for hauling items, maybe as you drive long distances and then when you arrive you take the padded cover off and display your clear cover for all to see. I can certainly see where this would be useful on more than one occassion. Yes, if you were going to leave it covered up all the time it wouldn't make sense but I don't think that is what people are thinking.

Re: Take Cover!
Anyone try using the clear protective film on the clear engine cover that is used on the front/nose of a car?
I tend to agree, why get a clear engine cover and then cover it up.

Re: Take Cover!
I believe, (daily drivers) were the people that have asked for the cover...when not out for a pleasure drive or a Porsche event, the noise can be intrusive...there will also be times when we would like to keep some of the sounds to a minimum...when driving with the significant other, etc. the cover makes sense...it is the best of both worlds...

Re: Take Cover!
JHolmer,
The cover looks nice. Do you have any pics of the thickness and the underside?
I agree with what others have posted here. This would be for the spouse and/or long trips.
Thanks!

Well, she sits in the the rear truck area, of course...you don't want her to get heat exhaustion...
That is why this cover makes sense...

Re: Take Cover!
Hi Moto,
Thanks! The INSTALLATION tab on the HIP website ( HOLMER INDUSTRIAL PRODUCT (HIP) DESIGN LLC) has a shot of the underside of the cover. Also, the GALLERY has some pretty good shots of the protective cover edge. Just click on the FULL SCREEN GALLERY to see enlarged detail.

Re: Take Cover!
This cover makes a lot of since to me personally. My hesitation with installing the clear engine cover in the first place stemmed from not being able to use the cargo area for fear of scratching the clear cover.
I would also personally use it to cover the clear cover when storing for extended periods of time. It would certainly reduce the need to clean the dust and film that accumulates on the outside of the clear cover. To each his own.

Re: Take Cover!
Could be said that it provides a solution for those of us that drive in the winter months and don't want to have to clean the engine on a daily basis. (out of sight out of mind right?) I've seen this cover in person on 06cs's car and were I dedicated enough to keep my engine clean this is most definitely the product I'd choose.

Re: Take Cover!
Please let us know how it turns out. I'd be curious to know how much noise it reduces it by.

Very nice protective cover.
Likely know the answer, but any chance of getting a group buy setup for all that got the HIP covers already?
thx,

Re: Take Cover!
I've also just ordered one. If it was just me driving I would not need it but I would like to take the wife along at times and she does not enjoy the background noise as much as I do Actually, I delayed a long time in ordering the cover for this reason but finally did. Although the sound does grow on you, but I don't like to change to the stock cover just to bring a passenger, so this will be a nice option.
