Arrow Caymans Take On Daytona!

BGB MOTORSPORTS CONTINUES PORSCHE CAYMAN DEVELOPMENT FOR MULTI-CAR PROGRAM FOR 2010

(Ormond Beach, FL, USA - January 25, 2010) BGB Motorsports has announced their intentions to support a multi-car Porsche effort for the full 2010 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series season, after running a limited schedule in 2009. The program will feature the first two Porsche Cayman S race cars to be campaigned professionally in North America. Both Cayman race cars and the team's proven, race winning Porsche 911 are entered for next week's Grand-Am Continental Tire Fresh From Florida 200; cars participating in the 2.5 hour event will cover roughly 200 miles, with the
race's beginning at 1:45pm on Friday just before Saturday's 48th running of the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona. The team recently completed 3 days of sanctioned Grand-Am pre-event testing at Daytona and another test at Homestead Miami Speedway this week:

"The cars are coming along nicely. It was a short off-season trying to get two brand new cars built in 2 months and we made it, just barely. So far the cars appear to be reliable and our drivers are happy after this most recent test. The difficulty has been in locating parts, since this chassis/engine/drivetrain combination hasn't existed before in the Porsche lineup. It will probably take us a little while to get them to where we'd like them to be; the goal is to make them into race winning cars, just like the 911s were," added Team Manager John Tecce.

Last month the team announced that Steve Jenkins would be joining former Grand-Am Rolex GT and Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series Champion Craig Stanton for all of 2010. The team has also announced that Jenkins and Stanton will be running their Cayman alongside new BGB teammates Keith Carroll of Stuart, FL and Duncan Ende of Los Angeles, CA. This will be Keith Carroll's first full season of Continental Tire competition, as he ran a few different makes in the series over the last two years before settling on running a Cayman with BGB for 2010. Carroll's codriver Duncan Ende is no stranger to the series, having run a Porsche 911 in the series with The Racer's Group for the last 3 years. Both drivers are Porsche enthusiasts and have chosen to stay within the Stuttgart family for 2010, albeit in a program that will be developing a brand new Cayman chassis. Both drivers had more to add:

"The car is getting better and better to drive every time we go out. I really got an opportunity to gel with the car at the latest test in Miami and I'm looking forward to the race," remarked Keith Carroll. Duncan Ende had more to add: "The chassis keeps improving the more time we spend with it. I'm confident that we'll get a handle on it and that things will fall into place."

Piloting the team's familiar orange Porsche 997 Carrera that led last year's Fresh From Florida 200 race will be Stewart Tetreault of Canton, CT and Guy Cosmo of West Palm Beach, FL. Neither Tetreault nor Cosmo are strangers to the BGB stable, with each of them returning again since the relationship started back in 2003. The team is very confident about the pair's chances in next Friday's race, as Guy Cosmo set the fastest lap time for any Porsche in the field after 6 sessions of testing with a lap time of 2:00.3. Cosmo had more to add:

"The car is really good and I think that we got a handle on it after the final two sessions. I'm confident in our chances to do well in this race and my codriver got a lot of laps in at Homestead so I know he's chomping at the bit as much as I am. I can't wait to come back with Stu (Tetreault) and see how we do when the green flag drops!"

BGB Motorsports is an ambitious, professional motorsports business. The team's facility is located less than 15 miles from Daytona International Speedway and the headquarters for the Grand American Road Racing Association. The team operates as a customer oriented business, running cars under the Grand American Road Racing, Sports Car Club of America and Porsche Club of America sanctioning bodies.

Re: Caymans Take On Daytona!

Thought they would also be running the 24 hours. Is the Continental Challenge also broadcasted on Speed?

Re: Caymans Take On Daytona!

I think a reputable first US outing...13th and 22nd out of 81 total cars. And oh, please note the 38 car edged out all 997s...AWESOME!

Qualifying Results Here.

Re: Caymans Take On Daytona!

That is indeed impressive. The #38 car is faster than the 911's that are entered in this same event ! Bravo!

Just think what the Caymans could do if given equal power engines, same transmissions, suspensions and tire sizes!

Daytona is also certainly a track that favors horsepower more than handling and you really had 2 cars ahead of the Cayman, the M3 (lots more power) and the Mustang (also more power) the latter being a turn-key race car that has had a couple of seasons and big$ behind it to make the mustangs what they are. Given the differential is just over 2 seconds from the pole and this track, I'd say the Caymans are MUCH further ahead of where I thought they'd be at this point. Tighter tracks and more experience/tweaking as the season progresses we could see some even higher finishes as long as the cars hold up. Remember, no one is really sure how these cars will hold up in the long run. Oh and yes I noticed they finished ahead of all the 997s but I think our own Guy Cosmo might have been sandbagging it a bit. Guy?

Still, can you imagine Porsche's chagrin if the race results were to end up this way? Teams with well sorted 997's finishing behind a new effort with the Cayman? Granted ALMS cars are about 10 seconds faster at Daytona than the best of these GS class cars, but they also weigh less and have more power. What pray tell could a Cayman do with the weight and power of say the Flying Lizards 997??

BGB Motorsports/TPCRacing Grand-Am Cayman S makes impressive qualifying times

At the end of qualifying yesterday, the BGB Motorsports/TPCRacing Cayman S driven by Craig Stanton and Steve Jenkins found themselves sitting in a very respectable 13th place. They are the top qualifying Porsche in a field dominated by V8 muscle in the form of a swarm of Ford Mustangs and BMW M3s as well as the formidable Chevy Cameros and Dodge Challenger. Even out-pacing the long raced and proven Porsche 997.

Though they are not the front runners, this is a very promising sign for the Porsche Cayman's first entry into pro racing. We have high hope for this season, and expect to see much higher placings in tracks that are not so heavily dependent on out right power.

The race is being held today at about 1:45pm. It will be televised at a later date.
