http://www.planet-9.com/gallery/files/3/ledlightbarnews.jpg Eliminate your 2006-2008 Cayman's circa 1995 fog-lights while updating it beyond the Gen 2! Manufactured in the U.S.A. of polypropylene T20 (just like Porsche original equipment), these 2006-2008 Cayman LED Spars with Radiator Guards absorb impacts, and with 100% color impregnation, chipping is eliminated. The wide-angle ultra-high-output LEDs on these spars create greater visibility and yield over 10 years of service. The extra strong polypropylene mesh protects your A/C condensers and radiators while adding a touch of the Porsche GT3 aesthetic.

Providing a truly a plug-n-play installation, anyone capable of replacing a fog-light bulb can install these LED Spars. The water resistant installation is easily reversed to return to the stock configuration. The 2006-2008 Cayman LED Spars with Radiator Guards will ship to you as a pair (driver and passenger side) complete with easy to follow step-by-step instructions and all of the necessary supplies to produce a professional installation. Cayman enthusiast Ken Kushman was one of the first to receive the "First Article"*. His installation, complete with 40 pictures is documented here: LED Spars with Radiator Guards - Articles

This product has a limited one-year warranty against any electronic defect within the LED array (circuit board or component LEDs), the wiring pigtail or its BAX9S connector (which interfaces with the OEM wiring harness). This warranty has no provision for damage due to misuse, modification, impact, accident, collision or failure to follow the waterproofing step as described in step #15 from the supplied installation instructions.

In the unlikely event that one or more LEDs malfunction (out of warranty) or are damaged, replacement LED array assembly complete with circuit board, 15 component LEDs, pigtail, BAX9S connector and installation supplies are available for $49 (per each; plus S&H). We will be happy to provide the labor and potting material to install your replacement LED array assembly. You would assume shipping costs to return a damaged or out of warranty unit to us along with your payment for the replacement LED array.

Hi Joe,
Here's the pix of the LED spars after installation. There's two pix that compare the before and after brightness intensity of the old foglights vs. the LEDs. These photos were taken with the exact same camera settings and the same position in my driveway to demonstrate the difference.
Also, many thanks to ThePat for the recommendations for LED sidemarkers and license plate lights. All are now LED with no error remarks.
Can't wait til the rear LEDs are available. Thanks for everything, Joe!

Ours arrived in just a few days, so few I didn't actually count.

Joseph, we arrived home to find the package waiting for us. It might have been 8:30pm, but of course my wife had to have them on her car right away. I am pleased to say that install was under 30 minutes, even reading each line of the very detailed instructions.

They work beautifully. I was sitting in front of the car while my wife tested the first side as detailed in the instructions. All I can say is don't stare right at them at eye level when you test them! LOL, Dang they are bright. I thought I had stared into a camera flash!

They look GREAT!, Great Value for the money! My wife couldn't be more thrilled (therefore so am I) We have already showed off a little at to all our friends at the dealer. We will be at a PCA Concours this weekend so they will be displayed there. We average a couple of local PCA gatherings a month. Many will see them.

I have purchased many independent and home grown after market parts over the years. All I can say is that these parts are top notch!

Thank you and congratulations on a truely fine job!

Hello STM,

Thank you for your order and sharing your enthusiasm!

I was visualizing your efficient installation and it brought to mind the question "did STM's air-boxes require a vacuuming?". I'll add that step immediately to my installation instruction pages.

Thanks again,

Joe

Hello 08caymansocal,

Thank you for the nice comments and compliment!

I do have a prototype design for an economical (approx. $500 per pair) LED brake light solution. At present, I'm waiting for pricing from a few vendors. Their quotes will have a large impact on whether I go forward on the LED taillight project.

Best regards,

Joe

Lights/grills look great!

Does anyone that has purchased Joe's LEDs have a passenger side fog light housing that they no longer need and would like to sell? Mine got busted by a rock and I need a new one. Please PM me or see my ad in the classifieds. Thanks.

P.S. Not having to worry about rocks taking out your lights is another good reason to buy Joe's product.

I left my PorscheMesh grill protection in place when I installed the LED spars.
Not a problem at all, I'm sure it will provide extra protection, especially at the track. I doubt there will be any reduction in airflow, it's mesh after all.
I have the center mesh installed as well, looks just fine with the LED spars.
The only suggestion I would make is in a future upgrade, and I'm sure it would end up being much more expensive is to have the LED portion of the spars made in a clear, light-like material, like the current 911s an Cayennes.
It looks great and brought the front end of my car up to date. I've had nothing but compliments on the front end of my car.

Hello Lobaeux,

Thanks for the report! The added protection will certainly keep out the smaller debris. Please remember to flush the AC condenser/radiator area out from time to time to flush out the small stuff.

No need to remove my spars or PorscheMesh, simply direct a strong stream of water from your garden hose through the mesh(s) and it will drain out of the air box drain on both the driver's and passenger's side.

Best regards,

Joe

Hello bdons987,

One of my early prototypes involved Frenching-in an LED array that was complete with a reflector assembly and a lens. The end result looked non-integrated, as an afterthought, and did not appear to be a part of the original cars' design.

Short or redesigning the entire front corners of the car, as in the 981 "Boxster" and 991 "911", my solution was the final and favorite evolutionary solution I could arrive at. Possibly you'll better appreciate my design by referencing the rear-end spars on the McLaren MP4-12C (see:Tail light of the McLaren MP4-12C | Flickr - Photo Sharing! ).

Although I had my design established long before McLaren released their design, I do see parallels between the two. And actually, their design seems to be plagued with internal light refraction (based on the pictures I've seen). Personally, I prefer the sharper presentation afforded by the external LEDs. Of course it is hard for me to be 100% objective!

So, I hope my explanation gives you a new perspective for my design and that you will favor me with your order!

Best regards,

Joe

Most OEM LED DRLs use reflectors. I was checking out those on a newer Boxster and the 991 recently, and they use a LOT of reflectors--so many it's hard to actually see the LEDs. Joe's LEDs are much more in the spirit of the original Audi R15 headlights. I guess you either like them or not, but I doubt Joe can actually use his current elements to create a reflector-based DRL.

omar,

You are going to love the way these spars will transform the look of your Cayman.

The 'thing' will actually be a max half-hour install for both and you'll love the look. You might want some more small black zip-ties to tie it all down proper.

OH! and welcome to the forum!

I'm sure somewhere among the 44 pages there's a post about whether these will fit in a 2007 Boxster, a post on how to order, and a post on how to install. I just don't have the patience to look for them. Sorry. Is there a chance someone could either repost this info or give the post numbers? Thanks!
